By that logic, I should like Stephen A Smith as well... And I don't

Its a 2 min clip. Im going to watch it and then determine if he was being too harsh... Ya know, waiting for the "facts"... Funny isn't that what everyone said that we should still do with regard to Joe. I've always been a Tavis Smiley fan. But if he deserves to be hammered for this interview, I will hammer him too. Just saying that its a 2 min clip guys. Watch the entire interview before you bash the guy. He isn't Steven A SMith, yelling nonsense. he is asking questions.

......he's making baseless assumptions (same with the rest of the media) that have actually no factual basis behind them in an NCAA rulebook and then stating his questions around those inaccurate assumptions. At least point to a rule or something to base that assumption on before you have an interview and ask questions about it.

  • Oh and MTayl, I dont even know if that makes sense... He was anti-Obama during the election lol

Doesn't make him retarded... Have you picked up a rulebook? I don't think we can get sanctions either FYI. Just saying, why insult the man for doing a PBS interview. I bet it's 10000 percent better than anything on ESPN or CBS or NBC...

to answer your question...yes, I have read the NCAA rulebook that defines things such as LOIC and the "death penalty". This guy has not.

At least point to a rule or something to base that assumption on before you have an interview and ask questions about it.

The first question was if he saw anything as bad as this... Not a tough question... The answer is obviously no... And the death penalty question is the elephant in the room. He had to ask that...

The second question asks just that... If the death penalty, the after affects... As well as knowing that they shouldn't over-step their bounds. Emmert goes on to talk about political will to act even though there isn't jurisdiction. Blah blah, past action in cases where there were violations... Emmert also talks about how there is no precedent, but that it's not necessary... None of which is a direct answer to what Smiley asked him...

And Smiley doesn't cite any specific NCAA rules. In fact, he said in his second question that people are saying that there are no grounds here... Which Emmert refutes. So again, not sure what you are talking about to him mis-quoting NCAA rules or holding himself out to be an expert. He asked 2 questions in this clip that had to be asked in an interview with Emmert. He doesn't press anything. He asked 2 questions and Emmert blabs on and on...

He's not a shock jock talking head like Stephen A Smith or Cowherd, Giger, or Skip Bayless. I don't understand the attacks on him, when any journalist would ask Emmert the same questions. If you get Emmert on your show, you have to ask those.

And all Emmert did was give the political response. Not really answering anything, but talking a lot. No one should flip out about this interview. Emmert isn't answering anything, just like a good politician. Just like he said. He doesnt want to take anything off the table- they could act, so we better take note of that... But they wont in the end I don't think. They dont have jurisdiction... Although Emmert says that they will act without it IF NECESSARY. Again, just like their previous statement, they won't act until we show what we are doing. And we will show that action is not necessary because we are doing what Freeh says and are moving forward... Really nothing to see here, but I am going to watch as a Penn Stater.

And? Never said Obama, you did. All that proves is he isn't a complete moron.

I don't think he's "retarded" (as someone said) in thi interview, or at all actually. Just wasn't hard to figure out why you would defend him so, especially because I would put a decent sum on you not providing the same courtesy to someone on the other end of the spectrum.

  • Quickly steer this away from politics/race and back on course, or it's getting locked.

? I will defend conservatives on CNN that give their opinion without talking in extremes... However, I cannot watch Fox News, because its nothing but craziness.

Didn't even mention race... Not sure why someone defending a black journalist has to come down to that. It's 2012 people.

Back on topic, tdiddy, hasn't the statute of limitations run out on the incident anyway?

Ok man. I will watch the interview and let you know what I think. Just saying his track record is not that of a blowhard... So I will have to see. He's normally pretty even keel and doesn't push or yell. But we'll see.

No. The failure to report was an ongoing act or 'pattern of behavior' in NCAA lingo. Started in 2001, lasted until 2011. It wasnt a one time thing which started and ended in 2001. They were essentially committing some sort of crime/'violation' everyday by keeping their mouths shut.

  • I think PSU wil be fine when it comes to the violations, unless they somehow appear out of thin air

  • I would say that's quite a stretch (considering the statute of limitations in real life for the actual crime has already expired and the court doesn't see it as "failing to report" every single day until 2011), but regardless, it's not an NCAA violation and as Emmert kept implying, they need to find violations of their rules before anything.

  • How bout this for the scariest concept of all.....

We need the NCAA to have some balls and stand up against lunacy --> the STAGGERINGLY UNEDUCATED, blinded and confused by rage "Court of Public Opinion"... and I don't know how often you guys go outside.... but there's a whole hell of a lot of stupid people out there.... from my (guess) count... there's a lot of people who want the death penalty. Thankfully they're just some schmuck on the street.... or some blog writer in their grandma's basement.... or possibly a member of the Tea Party.... but they're idiots and they're loud. Lets hope that people employed by the NCAA who have titles and job descriptions know how to actually utilize independent, intelligent thought and make the right decision.

If it helps their decision.... Jesus got crucified this way.... that Pilot guy isn't very popular these days.

I certainly hope so... I also hope that the BOT do everything to prove that we are doing all the changes necessary to move forward. I am not exactly faithful in them at this point though... Especially since none of them have stepped down willingly.

The statute is no stretch. That's the literal interpretation of such an act. As far as a violation, it's not something which has ever been pursued before by the NCAA. It's in their hands as far as how they choose to define their own Ethics Code, jurisdiction over Administrative Ethics matters, and how they relate to the core mission of the NCAA. It's not cut and dry, which is the reason for indecision. This is a pinnacle case for the NCAA to define the limits of its authority.
