Penn State: Commit zero NCAA violations that would give football an onfield advantage, or a recruiting advantage, and went above and beyond NCAA requirements regarding academics = culture problem and 4 year post-season ban and draconian scholarship cuts
UNC: have about a decades worth of recruiting violations, and now academic fraud to keep players eligible = slap on the wrist.

I only come on here because I am surrounded by PSU fans in my office and a couple of them come on here, so I like to keep up with what they are reading so we can "discuss".
Someone above said what PSU did gave them no advantage. Well, obviously the crimes gave no advantage. But the cover up indeed did. It kept the PSU image squeaky clean. Have you seen the letter that McQueary (McQueary!!) sent to every recruit during the OSU scandal? Just google mike mcqeary recruiting letter. If that's not a competitive advantage, I am not sure what is.
And this whole thing about basket weaving classes for athletes to take? Come on, this doesn't happen everywhere? The author (a PSU grad by the way-I am sure you all know that) even stated that back when she was in State College everyone knew the easy classes to take (Geology 101, Rocks for Jocks was one of them).
If a football player (or field hockey player) wants to waste their free ride and take golf and basket weaving, that's their problem. Some use it much more wisely.
UNC has done nothing wrong here. If you are arguing that you all want the NCAA to now dictate what classes kids should be taking, then I really am confused. I thought we wanted less involvement (even nuclear destruction) of the NCAA committee.

NCAA: Academic fraud to keep players eligible is cool with us
