My first post, be gentle.

  • 1st post, had to sign up as an mvp, couldn't stand not having all the info.
I know it was covered, but does anyone else have a bad taste about the 1-year qb for hire thing that seems to be happening. Hate the fact the Wiscy seems to be on every guys list that wants to make a splash for one year. Personally, I'll take a guy that will commit to his teammates, and stay put. Always liked the fact that cfb was where guys went to develop, then moved on to life in the nfl, or whatever. I think it's too much like free agency.

  • Completely agree, but unfortunately the one year transfer is becoming more and more popular it seems.

EDIT: oh yeah, and welcome. Great decision to join, Sean's the best in the business and the posters are pretty friendly.

  • Welcome, and I gave you your first upvote. I agree that Wisconsin seems to be renting QBs the past 2 seasons(I assume Danny O'Brien is going there). I hope that Qbs will see Bill O'Brien as a QB friendly coach who can help develop their skills during their 4 years.

This is a great site! Keep the opinions coming! welcome

  • From Illinois originally. Everyone in my family went to PSU. Live outside of Champaign now. Rather bleed blue and white, than root for a school that only cares about their mediocre b-ball team.

  • I personally love the rule. I view it as a reward for what is becoming a rare academic achievement. Graduate on time (or early in some player's cases) and you have a bit a flexibility as a reward. In most cases you are only going to move on if you are not the starting QB or the staff that recruited you is no longer in place.

  • Ok, I agree that as a reward for graduating early , it's a good thing. Most of these guys aren't going to finish a second degree though. Guess it's a ncaa thing. Why can't there be more post-graduate scholarships that let a guy stay put, and play. Just frustrated that they think we are all dumb enough to think because they say "student athlete" that separates cfb from the nfl.

    MWFry

  • Does it really happen that much? It seems like a fairly rare occurrence to me. I tend to applaud those that manage to graduate early given the time demands of an athlete.

    Welcome.

Since it is your first thread I will be nice and decide not to swing at that huge softball you just lobbed to me.

  • Welcome to the board, I am on the fence about the QBS transfer issue. I look at it this way, a school can change the head coach and the offensive philosophy and the current roster is stuck or pay the price of the a transfer(see Ryan Mallet) . But if a kid pounds the books and graduates early then I feel he should be able to take control of his own future. On the flip side that school spent the time developing the prospect both athletically and academically and after he graduates early another school can reap the benefits. That does not seem right either.

I think if wiscky keeps going after the QBS that are available to transfer in eventually it will kill their QBS recruiting and eventually their team chemistry.

Again this is all just my opinion

I did leave him alone, I passed on what I was going to say.

If by Duaghter you mean twin boys then I will. Actually, we are moving now so can't prep the room until we move.

"Student Athlete" is a fiction perpetuated by the NCAA. With coaches making 5+ million a year and top 10 picks making more in their first season than 90% of American's will make in their lifetime college football has taken on a whole different dimension. I would prefer to see college football made a college affiliated club sport that allows the players to be paid up to 5 years post high school.

    Good first post start.

I am not a big fan of the post grad experienced player free agency system.

Although it is allowed by NCAA rules I read somewhere that the SEC does not allow it. It seems they have figured out it is an unfair advantage, perhaps the Big Ten could follow their lead or god forbid the NCAA actually do something.
