Longtime pirates fan, I was even heavily considering season tickets if I would have stayed in Pittsburgh, but I can't even see it with Alvarez all but a lock to be a bust.

Starting to drink early today I see. I have been a Pirate fan for decades and the last 20 years has been nothing short of abysmal. I see it continuing this year. Bedard, Burnett, Correija, Morton and Karstens or McDonald as the starting rotation shouldn't give you any reason for hope. Then, there is the offense or lack there of.

yea, you cannot gripe about Pedro being the 2nd pick, he was a lock. it would be like if RG3 is a bust and the Richardson/Blackmon are on the cusp on stardom after going into their 2nd/3rd years. like the Skins with RG3, the PIrates had to take Pedro.

Pittsburgh first rounders typically turn into busts. Since 1994, the Pirates have drafted Mark Farris; Chad Hermansen; Kris Benson, JJ Davis, Clinton Johnson, Bobby Bradley, Sean Burnett, Bryan Bullington, Paul Maholm; Neil Walker; Andrew McCutchen; Brad Lincoln; Dan Moskos; Pedro; Tony Sanchez; Jameson Taillon and Gerrit Cole. That isn't good success whatsoever. The only good ones are McCutchen and Walker. Benson sucked; so did Maholm; Bradley/Burnett/JVB and Bullington were bums or injured. There hopefully is hope for Taillon and Cole. I will give Alvarez one more year before I put him on the bust line, which he is treading towards right now.
I'm not sure a single franchise has had worse production out of their first rounders than Pittsburgh. I believe the last good first round pick before Drew and Neil was back in the early 1990s with Jason Kendall.
