The space is there for a full class, but it doesnt appear as though we're building a class of that size. I won't re-hash my 'conspiracy' theory, b/c there are other possible explanations. Perhaps the staff anticipates more of the RS JRs returning for 5th yrs than I do. Perhaps they plan on offering more preferred walk-ons permanent scholarships. Perhaps they only want to fill a certain amount of spots prior to the season so that they can evaluate more 'late bloomers' after their SR yrs. I don't know, but we currently have 78 scholarship players, and a minimum of 13 seniors departing. I'd be shocked if at least 5 more kids didn't leave due to graduation, grades, PT, or physical ailments (I'm guessing more like 7-8). We could easily fill 25 spots, if not use the exception to go 1-2 higher. Yet, we sit at 14 and I don't see more than 1 RB, 1 WR, 1LB, and 2-3 DBs on the current projection list. I've closely followed this programs recruiting for quite some time and I've never seen a discrepancy like this before. We're aiming 5-6 short of where we should be. It's very odd.

If you really want to go the tin foil hat route, maybe the staff is planning on the dipshits at the NCAA coming in and shaving a few scholarships off the top.
