Most Exciting Moment In Beaver Staduim You've Had?

  • WebSiteMob said...

No moments pre-1995, aside from the opening post?
    Almost everyone points to 2002 & 2005?

Man, is this message board young.

I'd be curious to see if any of the older alumni/fan remember the 1978 Pitt game in person - I was barely alive, but I have heard that was an enormous game for the PSU program - Pitt was Top 10, PSU was hoping to remain undefeated & set themselves up for a first-ever #1 ranking at season's end . . . .

. . . .and PSU was losing to Pitt late in the 2nd half on a 4th & goal.

As I reflect, I think my first game is probably the most memorable. November 11, 1967 vs NC State. Exciting, low scoring win over the then- third ranked team in the country. Speed ("white shoes defense") vs power. Power won. Set the tempo for me. Didn't miss a home game from 1969-2006. Many bowls and away games.

  • After a 1991 Miami game, a group of us went onto the field with a Nerf football. The other team kicked off to us, and I received the kickoff and ran to the 50. Just then the security spotted us and began chasing us off the field. I yelled hike, a couple guys just ran deep and I threw the ball as hard as I could. My buddy caught it in the endzone for a 50 yard TD pass with a Nerf ball! I know the doubters won't believe it, but it happened.

My favorite PSU moment was Paterno's 400th.

  • 82 bowman catch vs nebraska

87 ND stopping rice on the two point conversion (coldest game ever)

bomb to powell to start the iowa game

  • 05 OSU game hands down. Was a freshman and took a 7 hour bus ride from Cortland, NY to arrive in State College. My friend was a freshman at PSU and he snuck me into the student section. Hali's sack + Zombie nation = Chaos

  • Nebraska 2002 was insane... but Joe's comeback 324 win, LJ's 2k, and Adam T., running though the tunnel makes it tough to decide so... I'll call it a tie.shrug

  • I've attended most major games since the 90's and my all time favorite moment was Gardener's Pick Six against the Huskers in 02. We were coming off 2 consecutive losing seasons, and there was a lot of anxiety built up in the crowd leading to the game. It felt like a cathartic moment for the entire stadium when he crossed the goal line. Others of note that I was lucky enough to experience live.

LJ breaking 2000 against MSU in 02

Mills long TD Run against OSU in 01 where Joe broke Bear's Record.

The Lavar Leap Game against Illinois.

Tamba's sack and strip against OSU in 05.

Dwill's P/R against ND in 07 and Illinois in 08

Gardner's pick still #1 for me.

  • Nebraska '82. My freshman year. Talk about being spoiled ...

  • Yea I could not believe the guy next to me was doing zombie nation. He was in his 70s and I look over and he's jumping. I had been to a good amount of games in those seats and I was stunned. He never did anything close to celebrate before or enjoying the music

That day was unreal. Started the day watching gameday from home waiting to to go to a basketball tournament I was playing in. We get a call from my dad's friend saying he's out because his basement had flooded. If we come get the tickets, we can have them for free.

So my mom drives up to Allentown to get the tickets and I go to the first game of the tournament. After the game my dad and I left kutztown university and we were off. We hit no traffic because everyone was already up there for gameday and what not.

Then after the game the car broke down and we spent the night at the Toyota dealer on atherton and my mom had to pick us in the morning and it was all worth it

  • Gardners pick 6. I seriously thought I was having a brain aneurysm because it was so loud. I thought my brain was ready to explode. Maybe it's because I drank heavily all day but that was the loudest experience for me. Close second though was Hali's sack on Troy Smith.

  • Gamba Hali sack of Troy Smith. If you could sell the atmosphere that was in the stadium that night, you would be a very rich man.

  • 02 nebraska was the most unique for me, second game in beaver stadium, 20 rows from the field in the student section, freshman year.. The Gardner pick was just electric.. Also still the largest crowd at the beav

  • The 1982 Nebraska game is my pick as well, I was seated in the student section about 10 rows from the field on the goal line where Bowman scored the winning TD. I was one of the students that helped tear down the goal posts and our mob marched a large section of them through campus all the way to Old Main lawn. There we managed to saw off a 2 foot section with a hack saw that was prominently displayed with the date and score painted on it above the bar in my fraternity for many years!

Runner up would be the tOSU game where we came back from a 27-9 deficit to shock the Buckeyes and get Joe his 324th win.

  • The 1982 Nebraska game was particularly memorable. Was he out of bounds? Did he trap the ball? That game also vaulted Penn State up the rankings into national championship territory. The loss in Birmingham the following week took some of the wind out of our sails, but Blackledge, Warner, Kenny Jackson and company got the team back on track.

The 2002 Nebraska game was also memorable. Present were a dozen or more story lines, not the least of which was the return of what had long been the usual and standard under Joe Paterno - the expectation of a championship. The game was also memorable for Rich Gardner's interception and subsequent return for a touchdown. That play represented the single loudest moment in Beaver Stadium history.

  • As a student:
Aaron Harris run up the middle v. OSU
Mills QB keeper run v. OSU
    01 win v. OSU
I know this was an away game, but Thompson to Fields v. Miami awesome! Beaver Canyon was instantly packed when Chafie caught that one!
    As alumni:
D-Will punt return v. Notre Dame. The entire stadium was a mad house!! I heckled Weiss & Clausen in the visitors tunnell & Clausen looked like a deer in headlights. That visitors tunnell was so as loud as I've ever heard it.
