  • Stopped by their board to take the temperature and there is just a complete lack of class. Surprising and slightly disgusting.
I'd blame it on them being threatened but theyre claiming to be positive that Mullen is staying...

  • That's why I don't even bother venturing over to other teams boards. I'm afraid I will get caught up in the BS that they spew and all the smack talk they talk, especially regarding the Sandusky stuff. It's not worth my time or energy to worry about what other folks are saying thinking regarding my school (good or bad). I can only imagine what the BB and every other message board was like and probably still is like regarding that. I'm fully convinced the entire world thinks anybody and everybody associated with PSU is a pervert and encourages pedophilia. It's a sad world we live in...... cry

  • To be fair the OP in that one thread had a point even tho it came across pretty dumb.. I'd be pissed too if people were coming over here asking about LJ for example and what is he like..

They're not all this bad. In fact, their board is the worst I've seen, comparable only to bucknuts immediately following the scandal.
I actually want Mullen now, just to piss off those "people!"

Timm, I guess you would have to understand what Dan Mullen has meant to us to understand the mindset of some of our fans. By beating Ole Miss this year, he accomplished something that hadn't been accomplished in 70 years, beating our hated rival three consecutive years. You also have to know Dan Mullen. The reason he gets mostly 3 star athletes is that he is brutally honest with recruits. No one he recruits is promised anything. They know he redshirts almost all his recruits, because he tells them that is what he does. He tells them if they work hard enough and EARN playing time, they will get it, but the family and team needs always come first. He tells them they will become the best they can be, but they have to earn it. He is a totally straight shooter. If he told the players he is not leaving, you can take it to the bank.

As for your generalization about our board, I find it a little suspect that you would say one thing on our boards, and come over here and call us "slightly disgusting." You have to understand the level of sarcasm and the long standing inside jokes to understand our board.

I actually went over also and they are hateful....Lived in Arkansas (not saying much) and even people from Arkansas made fun of Mississippi and how stupid/worthless/poor the state is...

I am not saying that I agree or disagree b/c I have only driven through the state once. I just was like WOW....these people serious with this PSU hate.

I am not surpised though....Mississippi education = to Detroit education and that is where I currently live....wow is all I can say and enjoy the awful ride.

1.It appeared to be 90% nasty I'll make a generalization on those stats.
    2. My last post there stated how classless the board is.
    3. I know sarcasm. Jokes about child molesting is not sarcasm.

Ole Miss is awful. How can anyone be proud or care that someone beat a 2 and 10 team? Some accomplishment

I don't visit other boards, but I can probably imagine the stuff flowing. Mullen is the lone ranger to make Mississippi State somewhat relevant in football and now, there is a good chance he is bolting for a better job after two years. They fear they will be starting over if he bolts. They are in denial.

  • Just read the thread. Not too impressed either by those who went over there to talk shit or their fans. But it is their board, and they have that right. I wouldn't be happy either if someone were calling my whole state stupid and bass ackwards. I am not calling Mississippi the beacon of education in the U.S., but how is inner city Philly? I live in Illinois and while the burbs of Chicago has great education and bring up upstates education levels, the City of Chicago is a joke. Everywhere has their ups and downs. Its a rural state, it happens. Doesn't mean they aren't hardworking people, and doesn't mean they are stupid at all. Hell they are right to work so I give them credit there.

Anyways, you go to someone's house and disrespect them, they have every right to knock your teeth in.

You are wrong about that sir. Yes, he has made us more relevant in football since his arrival, but, if he were to leave, he would be replaced very quickly with a coach that would slide right into his spot, one that actually has ties to Mississippi State and recruits much better. Do we love Dan Mullen? Of course we do. He's taking us to back to back bowls for the first time since '98-'99. But, it will not be the end of the world for us. Although, I do think he would be very succesful at Penn State.

I went over with nothing but respect, then left after calling them classless. Didn't personally attack anyone. It's unfortunate that they don't understand theyre a stepping stone.

I think many of them do, to a certain extent at least. I have seen none of them say it wasn't a better program. They said don't come there asking BS because they do not want to talk about it. it pisses them off, this is their best coach in a long time. And whenever you replace a good thing, the next option is always some sort of gamble.

Like, I think 2013, said: If someone came looking for LJ a few years ago we weren't exactly friendly. It just is what it is.

See, you come over with that attitude and expect everyone to kiss your ass and agree with everything you said? Most State fans understand MSU is not a destination job, but don't act like we are supposed to bow to you because you are big bad penn state

  • Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen vehemently denied a Jackson WAPT-TV report that he is close to a deal with Penn State.

“Yeah I heard about the TV report," Mullen said Tuesday night at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Jackson. “It’s the most irresponsible reporting that I’ve ever heard of.”

Mullen said he had not been so much as contacted by Penn State “or any other school.”

Mullen, in town for the Conerly Trophy presentation dinner, then took it a step further.

“I blame it on rival institutions trying to ruin our recruiting which we have dominated in this state over the past three years,” Mullen said.

WAPT reported that “Sources close to Mississippi State University’s program have said that football coach Dan Mullen is close to signing a deal t replace Joe Paterno at Penn State.”

Mississippi State athletic director Scott Sticklin, also attending Monday’s Conerly Trophy presentation, also denied the WAPT report.

Said Stricklin: “They quoted a source close to the school. I can’t imagine who that could be, because I haven’t been contacted by Penn State and Dan hasn’t been contacted by Penn State. It’s not a story, period.”

Contacted by The Clarion-Ledger about his station’s report, Ray Coleman of WAPT said: “According to my source, Penn State was going to make an announcement today that Dan Mullen would be the next head coach.”

Late Tuesday, Joe Gailbraith, a spokesman for the MSU football program, posted on his Twitter account the following: “Kind of WAPT’s Ray Coleman to come to the Hall of Fame to apologize for station’s erroneous report.”

Meanwhile, Mullen was asked if he had an idea what rival school might have planted the story.

“You take it from there,” he said.

Earlier today, ESPN college football reporter Joe Schad and the Scranton (Pa.) Times, citing unidentified sources, reported that Mullen is Penn State’s top target.

Mullen has posted a 20-17 record in three years at MSU. He led the Bulldogs to a 9-4 record last season, including a 52-14 win against Michigan in the Gator Bowl. MSU is 6-6 this season and is bowl-eligible in back-to-back seasons for the first time in 11 years.

Mullen, a New Hampshire native, has ties to Pennsylvania and his father is a Penn State alum.

Paterno was fired after 46 seasons after child sex abuse charges against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky surfaced earlier this month.

Penn State formed a search committee on Monday and has begun arranging interviews, according to ESPN.

In an interview in Starkville this afternoon, Mullen said he considered the rumors and potential interest from other programs “great” for Mississippi State.

“I think it’s great for the program,” he said. “… There are two rumors about you: either rumors you’re going somewhere or rumors you’re getting fired. So, I’ll take the going-somewhere rumor better than the getting-fired rumor.”
