USN/USNR 1970-2000. Vietnam, Cambodia, Med, North Atlantic, Korea, Okinawa, PI, Pearl Harbor (now that was good duty). It was the best of times and the worst of times. Anyone who doesn't appreciate the good old USA should spend some time in some of the corrupt $hitholes I've been to.

Was deployed last year at this time, finishing up a year inthe Middle East. Was very different from previous deployments; the communications available to deployed airmen for morale purposes is unbelievable. In my previous deployments, normally able to call home once every other week for about fifteen minutes while being able to periodically email. This last deployment we were able to skype routinely with the family. That allows you to be more more a part of their lives but in a very different manner. It is very welcome but different; leaving a feeling that you are a part of their lives at home but can't necessarily help.
It was odd but one of the "normal" things was checking this site and FOS to get updates on PSU football. Checking a website and a forum is the same regardless of where you sit. Thanks to all of you PSU fanatics who helped maintain a "normal" link to home.
