McGloin named starting quarterback

  • I was just stating that Bolden had shown some glimpses. I think he was like 11-13 with 190 yards when he got hurt in his last game. I certainly wouldn't want him to get a shot at this point. Comparing MM with Russell Wilson is ludicrous. His ability to read a defense, scramble, and throw the ball to the hot read on an audible are things MM cannot do and has not done. He admitted to never using an audible. Again, my point is that there is a ceiling with MM, and we have reached it. Now you take away his best wr in Moye and think it will get better. Give me a break.

You take away his best WR, but you also install a brand new offense that is less predictable. How many times in the last decade did a kid from the other team state we knew what PSU was going to do based on formation. 4-5 times that I can remember. The ceiling line retired last year BTW just in case you missed it, it's a dead term. A new offense, new QB coach, and OC can make a difference. That goes for all 3 QB's up there currently. The flip side to that is there will be a learning curve for the new system, but to say he can't get better is just a cliche accepted by those unhappy with MM. I can basically state PJ will never get it because he can't beat out MM...same exact logic there. If he can't beat out MM, how can you expect him to really do anything at the college level?

This is not the same scheme. It's not the same HC. Nothing about this offense will be the same, but the prophets here know exactly what will happen. I guess there is no need for some to watch PSU this fall. You apparently know who MM/PSU can beat, so why waste your time. We have no idea how this season will unfold for better or worse. It's fine to have an opinion, but try to realize at this point in time it's a completely blind guess by anyone. BOB stated he didn't show off anything from his offense in the BW game, so we don't know anything yet on that side of the ball.

LaJolla, you have to admit the likelihood of McGloin getting significantly better is extremely low. The history of the NFL is littered with bad QB's being bad despite new offensive staffs and schemes. The exceptions to the rule, like Alex Smith last year, are few and far between. And those guys all have good coaching and nothing else, like school, to distract them from football.

As far as the "if the others couldn't beat him out, they must not be as good" argument: Trent Green beat out Kurt Warner. If Green, never got injured, it's quite possible we never hear about Warner, who will likely make the Hall of Fame. Extreme example but the points are bad incumbents tend to stay bad and you never really know what a backup is capable of until they're given a chance.

I don't expect MM to carry any team, but I have NO FAITH in the two behind him at this point in time. Not a knock on them, but they simply haven't beaten out a guy some say is so horrible.

Alex Smith didn't get that much better, his team did with a new staff. Smith didn't have to carry his team this year, his defense (#1 in the league) and ground game did. Even in the big Saints playoff win they had, the Saints fumbled away 2 KO returns inside their own 20. They fumbled on the 1 going into score. They had 5 total turnovers for that game and the Niners barely won as the Saints went up with 2 minutes to go even with 5 turnovers. Smith's improvement wasn't legendary IMO, but the niners are the perfect example of better coaching leading to more W's even with mediocore QB play.

Scrap went to MM without hesitation. New staff went to MM after 15 practices. I'm somehow suppose to buy that his backups are better but just not being given a chance. Sure it's possible, but the likelihood is extremely low at this point in time IMO. MM won the job and he'll start. I think the offense will improve as it should be harder to scheme against that what MM was in last year. That isn't some off the wall thought. It's completely possible the team and MM don't make any progress on O, but I doubt the new HC chose him over the other two for no real reason. I am more hopeful the offense improves as a whole than I am thinking we have some legend at backup QB. Been there done that and while it happens every now and then...it's not really the rule.

Re: this is completely BS, I cant even believe your accusing him of that, site me these blatant examples please

Heres the Alabama post game where he was a staggering 1-10 for 0 yards.

    We. We. We. We. We.

  • Heres the Indiana State post game.

    Me. I. Me. I. Me.

The rest I'm not really going to argue about. You heard and I heard. Ok. I grew up in Mid Valley just a few miles from Scranton and have a lot of family, some that know and hang out with Matt, that dont share the same high opinion as you may have of him. I'll really leave it at that.

If you need any other examples of the "Me" and "We" stuff... type in any post game interview for Mcgloin on Youtube. Took me about two minutes to find these two examples to make my point.

    The Heel

  • Again Heel, your grasping at straws. In the first interview he actually goes out of his way to emphasize that dropped passes happen and didnt cost them the game and that Andrew's fumble didnt cost them the game. As reporter's do, they ask questions to provoke a response that will make headlines, and they got none. If you listen to the questions being asked, his answers make perfect sense "we". He has no reason to say "I lost the game"

In the second interview he was asked questions specifically about a play he made....why would he say "we"? One question was regarding stnk stepping on Pannell who fell into McGloin and they asked what happened on the play. What do you want him to say, De'Onte fell into us and we pushed him off our leg and...etc etc.

I think your examples are poor. Just a difference in opinion I guess, obviously you have an opinion on Matt and I have another, its obvious we will argue these points and read things different ways. But I dont think those interviews support your claim at all.
