Yeah, except that McGloin completed 54% of his passes with 8 TD and 5 INT last year in a worthless offense.
I get that people don't like McGloin. He's not a great quarterback, but he at least deserves the fairness of getting your facts straight.

exactly, my dad said about a month ago... here's what will happen; McGloin will be named starting QB and by Big Ten play, O'Brien hopes that Jones can take over the starting role. It's jsut that McGloin has more experience right now.

I have never been a fan of Mcgloin. In fact, I consider him one of the most polarizing players we have had. However, I do like naming a starting qb at this time. It provides stability, more reps for the top two qbs, and gives the team confidence in the qb chosen. This is how big boy college football teams operate. We should be happy to operate the same way after years of the circus. With that said, the leash is short for him and Jones should work hard when the opportunity is for the taking.

5-7..... 5 tds... 12 int.... horrible news. Paul Jones will not grow as a qb watching this. So much being done right under this post Paterno regime but will be undone with this.

Anybody know EXACTLY what BOB said today? Every outlet that has reported this story says something different - "McGloin named opening day starter", "McGloin named starter going into camp", "McGloin named 2012 starting QB".....
I know that it doesn't really matter, because if PJ outperforms MM in camp, PJ will start. Just wondering how BOB worded it, cause I'm guessing that he was a little more careful with his words than the media types have been in the last couple hours.

I agree. It will be nice to see a kid actually get all of the reps this summer and see if it does help. Not to mention a less predictable scheme should help the cause hopefully.

IMO this is a temporary move. I fully expect Jones to overtake both MM and RB, who I feel finished 2nd

Well MM is now the qb have to go with it, don't like it but will get over it. Will have to deal with a 8-4, 7-5 season. MM looks good in practice and against weak teams but when he has to play a good to very good team he doesn't have it.True leaders step up to the spot light so we will see about MM but in the last 2 years MM has not stepped up just back. IMO

if he does, then Obrien is not a very good coach. If anything, he has 3 years of experience and should be making good decisions.

I would say that he is a leader. The team likes him in the huddle, or at least they did last year over Bolden (not saying much). He isn't talented though. One can lead and that's great, but if you can't make the passes the leadership is moot at best.

I will say one thing, I am not a MM fan, far from it, but I believe if he plays within himself in this offense based on efficiency (short term gains for long term success) that he has a chance to lead this team to a BIG championship. The past couple of seasons, he was asked and forced to do too much, in a very poorly designed and limited offense. In this offense, he's just asked to make the intermediate throws that takes the ball out of his hands and puts it into the hands of playmakers in space, and allows them to do what they do best. I'm just as disappointed as the rest of you because I love PJ, but after thinking about it and realizing how this offense functions, appears that McGloin is more than capable of running OB's offense.
