McGloin in Heisman contention?

  • McGloins stats through four games: 83 completions on 140 attempts, for a 59.9% completion percentage. 1,006 yards. 9 touchdowns. 2 interceptions. 7.2 yards per attempt. 138.0 QB Rating. All of this with no real running threat.

I think if we can come close to winning out, he will get serious consideration.

  • His stats are good, but no way he's in the Heisman conversation. Only way he'd even come close is if we had gone undefeated.

  • You should mention that that 138 QB rating sounds nice, but is actually 58th best in the FBS. His completion percentage isn't close to the top. He's nowhere near contention right now, and barring a miracle, he never will be.

Was about to post the same thing. We're so used to mediocre QB play, that McGloin's numbers look great in comparison. Yet, they're really not...on a national level. The fact that he's leading the Big 10 in several categories just speaks to the poor QB play that has plagued the conference for years (with a few notable exceptions).

Edit: Daryll Clark only ranked 25th in 2008 and 23rd in 2009.

  • Good Lord, no way.

  • One of the ESPN commentors on Saturday said that he expects McGloin to be in a pro team's camp next year.

That guy said A LOT of dumb things during the telecast.

    lol no.

Check out Geno Smith's numbers by comparison, since most think he's the #1 candidate right now. Through three games, he has completed 81.4% of his passes for 1,072 yards and 12 touchdowns with no interceptions on 118 attempts. 191.2 QB rating. He is on pace to throw for 4,284 yards and 48 touchdowns.

Mcgloin has been doing well, but to suggest Heisman consideration is a little ridiculous.

I would agree, but with teams like the Browns...I wouldn't be that shocked to see McGloin in a camp...

To the OP, there is no chance.

  • I almost choked when I read the title, then everyone anwsered this exactly how I would have.

  • Can we stop the madness of him being a Heisman T possibility? Matt has improved moreso than any QB in the country IMO at this juncture. His stats are solid, but not HT consideration solid.

  • Please no! Let's see how he performs when playing with the big boys the next few weeks.

No. Not even close. Good start, but that isn't happening.

I expect him to be in a team's camp next year.

The announcer said he expects him to be fighting for a roster spot, which at this point is pretty unrealistic.

Sadly I don't think the B1G competition is much better than what we have faced so far. OSU is arguably the bext team in the conference. And they didn't look all that great against a soft OOC shedule.

One of the few smart things Cunningham said was along the lines of "after watching OSU, is there any doubt Penn State could beat them?"

  • Moxie 2.0 is no Heisman candidate, but he's the best we've had since MRob/Clark, and should he continue the season at his current pace, I'd put his effort at a Kerry Collins-type season.

    tomdee

  • Like your optimism, but no way in hell that McGloin even gets a lick. Numbers arent THAT great. Only argument that would make sense is if he took PSU to the NC, but with all of the sanctions and overall record, thats pretty much a pipe dream.

  • The announcer also said that the guy CARRYING the ball on the kick return was targeted by the tackler. Imagine that....a defensive player targeting the person he is trying to tackle.

I thought this guy was ok announcing earlier in the year but he was atrocious saturday.

He's the only thing we've had since MRob/Clark...? And if he's having a Kerry Collins type of year, then Mauti is Ray Lewis at NFL-All Pro levels.

  • did you guys know that Bolden was a Dual-Threat QB? cause according to the commentator he is. Those guys are idiots. I hate to say this but just cause the guys a black QB doesn't mean he's a dual threat and that really the only way I can see why they would say that

Well he was a dual threat QB in high school, highly ranked at that. He ran the ball all the time, thanks to the offense they had in place. We never let him run for us becuase at that point we thought if he got hurt we were screwed, seems funny now...

He never ran because he is terrible at it.
