McGloin

Once again, I haven't mentioned or tried to allude to his off the field antics. An OL stops a QB from making a hot read? News to me. But I guess because Tom Brady did it a few times this year too, so I shouldn't criticize his mistakes. To be fair to me, I haven't just started looking, these were things I noticed in the Purdue game (check the in game thread if you don't believe me), the OSU game (was at the game so it won't be in the in game thread), and the Nebraska game (also said some things about McGloin in there). I held my tongue for a few weeks waiting for it to get better, and it hasn't. They're still issues that are correctable, and they're things that I personally expect to get better. I also never called anybody a fanboy, but I do think it's a little ridiculous people are not allowed to criticize a QB because the numbers he has put up are better than we've seen in a while and he works hard.

I stand by what I said about Bolden since I've been on the board, that he was the better quarterback for the first year and a few weeks of the second season. If he had received good coaching, he could have been VERY good. He didn't, which happens, and he washed out. I was never outspoken about Jones.

All things on this board could be easily summed up in a few words. The entire "second look" thing Jeff does could be summed up in four words and a few periods: "got screwed... We lost." Boom. Done. But it's a football message board, where people supposedly enjoy talking football. I brought up some legitimate points about our starting QB, and for whatever you've said it doesn't take away the fact that they are very correctable mistakes, and am getting torn up for it. If people are tired of talking McGloin, quit responding. In fact, don't open any thread titled "MCGLOIN." If you do in fact open it, make posts talking about football instead of veiled criticisms of other posters.

I've left his off the field behavior out of this, I'd expect those who respond to do the same. That being said, any chance of talking football is now over because anybody who did open the thread with that intention saw it get derailed by people who made comments about my posting history.

But, Kenyon Barner is a RB, so ...
    biggrin

I figured as long as we were throwing out random names I'd give the guy a shout out.

  • I've kept my personal feelings out of this thread and off of the board this season. My criticisms posted in the OP are all very legitimate, and how I feel about him doesn't change anything about his on-field performance.

You don't know every play call that was made and what adjustments were made. I get you saw a few plays here and there, but you are giving yourself way to much credit as a fan as to what he saw, what the play call was, and what was expected. I'm quite sure he missed plays in every single game this year, but compared to the last 2 years...light years better. I saw Mauti over pursue along with Hodges this last weekend...maybe I should start a speficif thread for each as it's correctable and things that 2-3 year starters and AA candidates shouldn't do. The thing is even pro LB's do this...it's part of the game. It's pretty easy to be critical of any player out there if you focus on them. It's harder to be objective and look at the overall picture. MM has never been a great QB, but he is better than so many stated that it comes off so trivial with 2 games left IMO.

  • By your logic, we shouldn't ever criticize a player unless what he does is painfully obvious (like falling down in pass coverage or diving the wrong way when going for a ball) because nobody on this board knows specific play calls, what each player is supposed to do on said play call, etc.. Why should we even bother speaking about it then? We're not on the field. We don't have access to the playbooks. We aren't a part of the team, what concern is it to us?

Next time somebody calls out Fagnano, I'll be expecting you to pipe up with "well you guys don't know what play was called, or what his role on that play was." Got it.
