McGloin

  • Mcgloins growth should lock up quarterbacks for the future. Impressed with his play. He still has things to work on but is playing a lot better with limited ability.

  • It's called coaching. It's obvious that he's being coached up.

He still forces a few throws a game, but when he has time he is doing a great job of finding open WR's. He isn't locking on for the most part and the O does a great job of giving him options. I think most of his success is due to the scheme that BOB is running and his toughness back there. People blasted that kid for 3 years straight, but he looks good and the only 2 picks this year were the WR's fault. Both of them should have been caught. His only issue is he'll still force some throws, but all QB's do.

Jury will be out until he faces a decent defense and he is challenged more than 3-4 times a game.

He has certainly played very well thus far, not taking that away from him...but his problem was never how he played against bad defenses. It's how he played against good to above average defenses.

Newsflash....better teams slow down better QB's. OL's having issues lead to bad QB play. At all levels. The OL at PSU is not picking up blitzes well at all. Hat to hat they are fine, but they are picking up their blitzes. I'm in NOLA and Brees is getting destroyed this year and turning it over more because of it. Nobody is claiming MM is an AA, but he is doing just fine and has been the top option for 3 years. It just took a new coach with a modern scheme to realize that and run with it. Quite a few that took his attitude out of play when evaluating him saw he was ok minus his arm.

Don't worry you can come back and blast his play after PSU's next loss. I know you will.

Agreed 1000%. I think the commentators were on to something when they mentioned that teams going forward should tell their safeties to play deep balls over the top because MM ALWAYS over-throws the deep ball... Those will be picks against quality opponents. his deep ball accuracy is horrible. But he is very much improved... I still worry about him against good teams...

My point being he has played very controlled now and hit wide open guys often. There will come a time where he won't have time and guys won't be as open, so we will determine if he continues to stay out of the "bad decision" mode he was once in. If he can, great. But I still have some reservations he will force too much when that happens.

  • Mm has been buying us more time by being able to scramble in the pocket. Until our line can start picking up the blitzes, we are gonna have problems. The better teams are gonna hurt out offense badly, but its gonna be on our line, not MM. Now trying to force throws will be on MM, but if the line improves I think so will Mm's decision making. His improvement from last year is impressive.

Even if he does...he is about all PSU has right now. If PSU had a better option they would be out there...they don't....he is PSU's QB.

If you're simply waiting for him to have a bad game to say you're right...buzz off. He will struggle this year against better teams as that is how it works in football. Even more so in college.

  • Ive never been his biggest fan or biggest hater but I'm gonna give credit where it is due. Kid is a hard worker and a competitor and he is def improved which would jaw never happened under jay pa

  • I have been extremely critical of McGloin but I also will give him alot of credit. He has definitely improved his decision making this year although he still throws some passes he shouldn't. He is an improved QB and I think alot of that has to do with competent coaching. One thing I found hilarious today was that on the broadcast in the 1st quarter on ABC they were saying that he might be fighting for an NFL roster spot next fall. While he has improved, he is definitely not an NFL QB. My dad and I got a good laugh out of that one

  • McGloin is what he is and that is a gritty competitor with limited skills.......he is exhibit #1 that Qb coaching makes a difference but the announcer's comment he would be fighting for an NFL Qb position is just laughable.......off the top of my head I can think of 3 throws today that should have been picked....on top of that he threw two deep balls into double coverage today that as the announcer astutely pointed out will be picked by better teams.......He is the best PSU has right now but this offense would be scary if he could throw the deep ball!

So I'm watching the replay and I just came on to post what a joke it was that they said he could fight for an NFL spot, and it was already posted. Good stuff.
