Well, on one hand you could say kids in NJ and MD can now stay home and play in the Big Ten, so that's going to hurt us. On the other hand now you can say this gives us a bigger presence in those states, and beating up on the home team year after year will be a good recruiting tool. So let's call it a wash.

Dave Jones thinks it will hurt our recruiting.
"Now, everything has changed. The parents of all of those kids that LJ used to scoop up can now know that they'll see their kids play against the big boys and can do it staying close to home. And these are the regions where PSU has picked up a lot of its fastest players. Big problem for Penn State, I believe."

So I am going to say it will help us.
You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

As long as PSU keeps beating MD and Rutgers this will help PSU in recruiting those areas. It will also help other B1G schools in those states but not a ton. Probably OSU the most. Overall however I think it is a good move for PSU by adding some local schools and expanding exposure and recruiting. JoePa got what he wanted!

Sometimes, yes.
This will impact PSU recruiting for sure. Assuming rRutgers joins as well, two of our hotbed areas (NJ and MD/DC/VA) are now B10 schools. We no longer can pitch those kids on playing in the better conference with more attention, better match up's, bigger stadiums, more tradition, etc. They can stay closer to home and still play at OSU, PSU, Michigan. And we have seen several 4/5 star guys the past few years who staying close to home was a consideration due to family considerations.

Better for the Big Ten than having Pitt? Yes. Better for recruiting than having Pitt? Sure.
Better for a PSU fan who remembers how awesome the rivalry was in the 80's and 90's? No. I know PSU dominated the series, but it was still a fun game to play for both sides. It's a shame they don't play anymore. Hopefully BOB changes that.

I think it should help RU out more than MD. MD was in a decent league and they just couldn't attract the talent. I know for a fact that NJ kids didn't want to be stuck playing in the Big East.
With that being said, I think you will see just as much or if not more pressure from the Big Ten teams coming into NJ and MD to pick up some recruits. In the end, it will be harder for us, but it looks like we are finally trying recruit more national prospects, so it will be interesting to see how much this affects us.

I disagree. I think this will help our recruiting immensly. Prior to joining the B1G, PSU played these teams all the time, and for the most part PSU had the pick of the litter in recruiting. The best of the best from NJ and Maryland went to PSU to play on the big stage with the added benefit of being able to play in front of family and friends multiple times a year when PSU would travel to play Maryland or Rutgers or WVU, etc. In addition, the lesser recruits from these areas, which were aften times the former highschool teammates of the stud recruits, went to the likes of Maryland or Rutgers. It was nice for these top end recruits to be able to play against friends and players they played against in high school.
Once PSU joined the B1G, in my opinion, PSU became less of an option for some of these recruits from the NJ, Maryland and greater mid-atlantic region because they would rarly get to play in front of family and friends or against friends. Now, if you are a stud recruit, you can go to PSU were you have the oportunity to play in big time games, perhaps (once the sanctions are over) compete for a B1G or National Championship and be coached by coaches that can get you to the NFL, all while being able to play in NJ or Maryland a couple of times throughout your career in front of friends and family who can't make the weekly trip to State College.
In short, I think this is a step toward returning PSU to the "Beast of the East" as it was know before it became part of a midwestern conference.
