About what I would expect from an economics major. There is a reason your clan is getting so much push back in academia the last ten years, because money is not the only thing that comprises the "real world".

Academics do not think only in terms of money. It matters, but so do a lot of other things. With the new ACC contract, PSU can justify lost revenue and work to compensate through fundraising.

About what I would expect from someone who would rather hide behind teaching that doing something. Those who can't do...what's that term...hmm...

There's a reason we're broke, possibly because we keep making policies that are feel good rather than making economic sense. But hey, when we run out of money we can always....oh yeah.

Now, I'm sorry i'm not from PA and never heard of Steve Jones. So relax. I never said you or he were lying, I said I'd like to see another source we got that.

That said, this would be terrible timing for PSU to leave. Money has never been more important to them than it is now, and they cannot afford to buy back their media rights for the next 15 years (through 2027). They get approx $25m a year now, expected to go up substantially with th next round of media negotiations. That's a ton man. It could be a move, but can they really afford to take it now? That'd be a bad lookin move.

The conference wouldn't add to create an odd number of teams.

Uhh...do you remember how many teams the Big Ten had for nearly 20 years?

  • If true how does this affect recruiting?

I'm of the mindset of not a ton. Michigan and OSU have been able to go east before, NU has alwasy nationally recruited. I think moves like A&M to the SEC are the types of moves that help more. It may help Maryland and Rutgers more than anyone else in the conference.

That makes sense. Hopefully Rutgers and MD will continue to be horrible and this will help PSU even more in those states.

It definitely helps Rutgers. A lot. Completely legitimizes them. Trouble will be if they can still compete, and don't just become another Indiana.

Also, this will mean they can't be our OOC in a couple years. Will have to fill that scheduling vacancy on short notice.

Can't have an odd number and keep the champ game. That would be the issue now

Pretty sure they could. As long as it's greater than 12. Could be wrong on that, but I think the only requirement is that you have greater than 12 teams.

Good, add another cupcake like Pitt to boost the win total. Also, the B1G might go to 9 conference games.

I'm pretty sure they have already decided to do that JT$. But I could be wrong.

Lefty, first thanks for being a good sport always like joking with you buddy no hard feelings man. But I realized that as well, we would need to schedule someone pretty quick. And Rutgers would gain the most of this by far, legitimate and get to leave the Big Least.

  • Several great laughs reading this thread. Never knew "the voice of PSU" was so well connected to Maryland and the B1G in general that he should be believed when he breaks a story on Maryland to the B1G. Never heard of him either and won't remember his name tomorrow. Steve Jobs?

Maryland and Rutgers to the B1G makes way more sense than Missouri ending up in the SEC. People seem to be stuck in this thought process where you have to steal a huge name from another conference, as if there are a ton of big names that want to change conferences. Outside of getting ND to finally concede to a conference there aren't a lot of great schools that fit geographically.

He works with a guy on the radio named Jack Ham. You probably have not heard of him either. Just kidding...

Ok...Yeah, I am sure Steve Jones doesnt have any ins in the AD more than ESPN.

Also, are you even a PSU fan? I ask because (and since you are being a d*ck about Steve Jones):
    1. Not knowing who Steve Jones is
    2. Not caring to remember his name

You really should. No idea how you never heard of his name if you've followed PSU for awhile (or even a couple years). Do you not know who Fran Fisher is too?

Uh, Steve Jones is for all intents and purposes an unofficial PSU employee. If he says something, it's true.

And he basically just reported a story that ESPN broke an hour later. So.. he was absolutely correct.

I mentioned him and Ham a couple of times today in the in-game thread.
