MSU President: New NCAA Chair

  • Lou Anna Simon from MSU has replaced Ed Ray as NCAA Executive Committe Chair. Does anyone know where she stands with regards to the PSU sanctions?

  • MSU has a lot to gain by PSU being knocked down. One has to believe she was right along in Ed Ray's pocket pushing the death penalty ridiculousness.

I think you're overestimating how much MSU has to gain. We're not in the same division. It would be better to have PSU also competing to actually give OSU/Wisconsin someone else to look out for. We do compete for recruits but having a non-neutered PSU in the conference would be better as a whole, and we don't compete with you for recruits nearly as much as UM/OSU/ND.

Not that I personally claim to know where LAKS stands on the PSU issues, but I don't think MSU benefits from PSU being down as much as you think. The damage to conference strength as a whole probably negates any negligible advantage we may have gotten.

She was. Supposedly, a majority of the executive committee favored the 4-year death penalty. Since it was a majority - not unanimous - it's hard to say what her position was unless she speaks up herself. You'd hope that a Big-10 member would have opposed the death penalty, but you never know.

lol Seriously, do you realize how many years we'd have to be good to catch up to what Penn State has done, especially since the 70's? More years than Lou Anna will even be on the planet and more years than Penn State will be playing with Rudy Ruettiger clones. Please don't accuse anyone from MSU of any conspiracy.

We compete for about two recruits per class and play for the most garish trophy in college football. If that's what we have to gain, then sure.

  • I'd like it if PSU could get 5 scholarships/year back, but in exchange they have to house the Land Grant Trophy for a decade.

I have said for years that the loser of the PSU v MSU game should be awarded the Land Grant trophy.

All it takes is getting to 1 MNC, such as Oregon (but they also have had some sleezy stuff going on, including their uniforms).

So, I assume then you would be fine with the B1G kicking your butts out of the "little ten"?

Start a petition. I'd venture a guess that just about every fan and member of the B1G would be happy to sign. Let me know when you have it ready, I'll sign first.

As much as the other 11 B1G presidents despise us (plainly seen over the past month), that would never happen. They are smart enough to know that no school in this conference holds as much economic power as Penn State. This is not being ego centric, it's just how it is. Penn State delivers the Northeast for the BTN, the rest of the conference delivers eyeballs in the dying Rust Belt. Big Ten Hockey Conference? Gone without Penn State. There is way too much money involved here.

As a side note, I have always found it sad how fans of the other schools in this conference fail to realize that they have, and always will be, satellite nations to the Soviet Union that is UM and OSU.

Not every "fan and member of the B1G" is an idiot. Just FYI.

  • Would love to leave the B1G.. Jim Delaney is just as sleazy as Mark Emmert.. PSU would really screw him and his conference if it left.. No hockey conference, no B1G football championship game, no East Coast reach.. And guess what, Notre Dame isn't joining the B1G anytime soon. The conference would be stuck with UCONN, Rutgers, Louisville etc.

To me if you look at the prospect of PSU leaving the B1G I've felt for some time that you are a more natural member of the ACC. Plenty of natural rivals such as Maryland, UVA, VTech, etc. I believe academically it may be beneficial for PSU to remain in the B1G but from a purely athletic point of view I see your teams having much more in common with ACC schools.
