Was just about to post this. We all know it's Vicky Triponey who is saying this stuff. She was fired in September 2007. Didn't she want to suspend Paul Poz for an entire semester over prank phone calls? That bitch was crazy.

By the way, that was Dan Connor who made the prank phone calls.

  • This is a very interesting take on a guy who is a mandatory reporter regarding the situation as it happened at PSU, and why the Emails really dont change anything at all regarding the NCAA.

I've tried to resist writing anything about this, but people insist on continuing in their moronic ways (NOW you want the death penalty, really?) so I'm going to write this here. People have...

This guys is also a Penn State fan (possibly an alum, I didnt look into too deeply)...Im personally more interested in objective views from people with no personal or emotional ties to the situation.

He's been in two jobs where he was a mandatory reporter... in the state of PA. One as a teacher and one as a preacher.

Even if you believe the blue tint is there, it doesnt change the law he is explaining and extremely familiar with.

It makes sense. And I doubt we'll even see the scenario he is talking about. They aren't going to say Joe convinced us not to go to the police. They are going to say they didn't feel they had enough information to go to the police. Or they didn't realize the seriousness of the situation. Blaming it on Joe doesn't help them one bit.

There are alot of people familiar with the law that think the opposite. Are you calling him an expert? All I am saying is that this guy has a biased opinion. And what he says will do nothing towards the actual outcome of what happens. Its just on mans opinion.

Im not familiar with the law but an article that says its no different to purposely cover up child abuse than it is to not make a follow up is kinda ridiculous.

  • There are a few issues here. As it relates to Jerry and PSU not contacting CYS they really have no leg to stand on here...point blank, the call shouldve been made, end of discussion.

In terms of Joe's role in the whole thing we'll never really know the truth. My guess is that Joe was involved in some of the discussions on what to do with Jerry. I fear that if it can be proven that things were discussed wth Joe then this is where PSU could really be in touble. Let's face it, Joe should not have been involved at all. At the time he was a 75 year old football coach that knew next to nothing about criminal investigations and reporting procedures for suspected abuse. Why involve him? This is where the Freeh report will try to make a connection between Joe getting involved in other criminal/disciplinary issues involving football players...most notably the "appartment incident" from a few years back.

I could be wrong but the apartment incident is going to come back and bite Joe b/c that whole thing came at a time when Judicial Affairs was suspending athletes for an entre season for underage drinking offenses. If things continued on that course there wouldve been a handful of starters that wouldve been suspended (and probably for the entire season). I think Joe got involved, he expressed his opinion and then shortly after ESPN ran their smear piece about football players being out of control. My guess is that someone in Judicial Affairs wasnt to happy w/ Joe's involvement.

Question about this part. Was PSU required to adopt these measures or was it just that most other schools did it so PSU should have to? Basically, was PSU not in compliance w/ NCAA rules?

They were in compliance. One could easily argue that PSU didn't have a need for as many compliance officers as other schools because compliance was ingrained into the sporting culture at PSU (and I truly believe that).

  • I have a theory for those of you that feel that the email referring to Paterno is "just the tip of the iceberg." Assuming whoever leaked this email had an intimate knowledge of the Freeh investigation wouldn't it be logical that that person would leak the most damning/controversial piece of information that they had? Isn't it possible that we already have seen the extent of Paterno's involvement in this situation?

Not solely. Not sure who downvoted it before but he wasnt the only player involved.

I am starting to feel the same way you do. If that's the worst than everyone who wants us punished will be sorely disappointed.

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

Exactly, you don't leak firecrackers, you leak nuclear warheads. I do think the 4 words may be the extent of Joe in the emails and this was leaked to start shaping opinion before the Freeh report is released. Based on the talking heads and board chatter the leak has served its purpose. People on this board are turning 13 loops on the hangman's noose over an out of context leak, that no one reporting has seen. When the emails come out the noose may be needed but let's not hang anyone before we have more detail.

The report will come out after they have sufficiently shaped public opinion by leaking snippets of findings. I suspect more leaks will come out until they get to where they want to be.

Seems like our very own BoT is intent on blaming the entire mess on Joe & the program. Makes you wonder what they're hiding when they want to ruin the very institution they supposedly represent.

My question remains the same, who will investigate the BoT to find out what they knew & when and hold them accountable for their actions/inactions.
