Lions set to begin Big Ten play

Penn State head coach Pat Chambers looks ahead to the Big Ten season. The Nittany Lions open against No. 16 Michigan on Thursday.

  • Only chance PSU has at all is if Michigan can't buy a three. I'll be interested to see how competitive the Lions can keep this game.

  • looking forward to the game tomorrow and fearing it as well.

Indiana and Michigan State playing a good game on BTN right now. Indiana is on a 10-0 run to take a 3 pt lead 15 minutes left.

    POV

  • Lions just do not have enough scoring power to keep up with Michigan.
If they get to the foul line they need to complete high %
    Hoping for the best.

  • In both of Michigan's losses, the Wolverines have played relatively solid games, scoring .95 points per possession against Virginia and 1.15 PPP in a losing effort to Duke. Michigan averaged 54.5% effective FG in both games. Their one flaw has been the lack of chances created at the foul line, something the Cavaliers and Blue Devils used en route to victory.

Both opponents, Virginia and Duke, used high free throw percentages in order to gain the decided advantage. Virginia created 42% of their scoring opportunities from the foul line, while Duke did so at a 59% clip.

If Penn State gets to the line often, they MUST capitalize by shooting a high free-throw percentage or else they will not fare well - save for lights-out shooting from the field.

  • Tough game tonight. Frazier really has to cut down on some worthless turnovers. I'm okay with him driving and missing, but he turns the ball over way to easy on the perimeter at times. Sasa needs to be more aggressive in the getting the ball underneath. He does decent when he actually gets the ball, but getting into position is half the battle. I think Graham will start by the end of the year and Marshall needs to stay out of foul trouble.

  • Was painful to watch actually. I like how frazier has stepped up this year. But he forces it way too much, thus creating turnovers. Sometimes he's reckless with the ball.

After Woodyard got hit in the head with the ball, I turned it off.

Just over-matched tonight. Marshall picking up 4 fouls on the offensive end before picking up a pointno We need him on the floor and scoring just to remain competitive. I thought Lewis showed a little more determination driving to the basket in his limited time was one of the few highlights. Graham being back from mono is a positive as well. Frazier is obviously are best player and has continued to improve.

@NW Sunday night on ESPNU. May be the best NW team ever, but I still expect a better showing in Evanston.

I watched the game late on BTN2go since I was out playing basketball myself. The fast forward button, which fast forwards by 10 seconds at a time, got pressed a lot in the second half.

Definitely a tough one not having Marshall out there because of the fouls, he is the second scorer needed. Regardless, it is going to take basically a perfect game for the Lions to snatch some Big Ten wins. Penn State has owned Northwestern of late, and if Shurna has an off night they can sneak out a win.

  • Yeah it wasn't pretty.

But I do like what I see from Chambers so far. I think he just needs more talent and time.
If you notice, when someone hits the deck, EVERY player on the court runs over to help him up. I have never seen that watching a PSU game. Seems like he is trying to bring them closer, team chemistry. Which i think is wayyyyyy underrated.

The hustle is there as well, they never seem to give up.

Not quite sure there is a true leader on this team. For as many people that knocked Cornley's size, his leadership and determination was tremendous, thats a player this team lacks.
