Patrick Chambers has added another piece to his 2012 class. Penn State has received a verbal commitment from Reading (Pa.) Berks Catholic forward Donovan Jack.

Andrew - read someplace else he was being recruited by 20 other schools. Any idea who PSU beat out for him?

I don't know much about the kid, but if Chambers wanted him, I am totally cool with it. It is so nice to have full faith in a basketball staff when it comes to recruiting.
No offense to DeChellis or Dunn, but those guys just filled openings with warm bodies who were willing to commit. Chambers has said he won't do that and I have no reason not to believe him.

Bigger programs were trying to get him to visit. There were ACC, Big East and A-10 teams that were going after him. He is a big kid that has a lot of ability. He is also putting on weight. Not to mention, he is a great student. He is a nice get for PSU.

It's hard to tell much with out seeing him live or watching some complete game tapes. From the little video available he looks like a guy with a solid all around game. Can handle it a little, decent jumpshot, and some low post game. He doesn't look overly athletic but hopefully he develops into a good college player. Guys who have seen him; any opinions on how he fits into the plans next season? Will he be able to contribute early?

If Chambers wants him, good enough for me. Chambers has said numerous times that he isn't going to just offer scholarships out to just fill spots.
Plus 6-9 guys with a nice game aren't exactly easy to find. Hope Jeter is next.
Next season should be fun, Chambers has said we could have the best backcourt in the nation (frazier/newbill), FWIW.

Only on ESPN, Rivals has Jeter as a 3* and #150 in the country. I think based on offer quality that Jeter would rate higher as well. I think they can both be Big10 type players but Jeter has a higher upside to me.

Its pretty much all the central catholic guys... the old team was central catholic, it the same as berks catholic, the church combined the schools in Reading PA

If I remember correctly both Holy Name and Reading CC were AA schools that were combined. Snip Esterly is a pretty good coach.

I saw him play at the Donofrio in Conshy a few weeks ago and it was clear that he is a legit division I player. He was blocking shots, dunking, running the floor - he just looks super athletic. He blocked a few shots that should have been goal tending calls. He has put on weight too. He still needs to put on weight, but he has put on weight and it is good weight. I really think a lot of people were not on to him because he was a skinny white kid that played in the middle of PA. The night he played at D'Onofrio, he looked like the best player on the court and there were a lot of kids playing that are going to high division one programs.
