I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said.

That's pretty much the gist of it. It was created by former players Dave Costlow, Damone Jones and Scott Shirley in 2003 as a way to raise money to battle kidney cancer, the disease that claimed Shirley's father. Shirley went on to found Uplifting Athletes and has created chapters at major universities all over the country.

Penn State's chapter of Uplifting Athletes is predominantly run by players. They collect donations for LFL throughout the year and a lot more on the day of the event itself (they also have other fundraising events such as a dunk tank during Blue-White weekend). For the first nine years, the lifting challenge was coordinated by John Thomas. This year, obviously, it was Craig Fitzgerald.

Attached is the advance story I did for this year's event describing some of the changes.

    Hope this helps.

Oops. Completely missed that article. Thank you

Sean will probably chime in here at some point with his thoughts, but for me, it was the usual suspects.

Hodges and Mauti were beasts and you can tell those guys feed off of each other. Mauti and Zordich are pals and you can tell they enjoy pushing each other physically and mentally on the field. Silas Redd's leg drive during the van push (I'll have more on this in the story) was sick -- I've seen people push lawn mowers more slowly.

Two underrated guys who showed a lot of power and mobility today: Glenn Carson and Zach Zwinak. LBs and FBs typically do well at these things but these two stood out as much as anyone not named Hodges or Mauti.

Before the event started, I mentioned to John Urschel how much more solid the offensive linemen looked this summer and he just kind of grinned at me. We all thought that Fitzgerald would get his best results with the o-line and it's pretty clear that they're continuing to transform as they get nearer to the preseason.

Great event. So much more energy and much more fun than in past years.

    Not surprised.

Man, I'm excited to see how the OL does. I know, 72, we're not supposed to expect much early on. But the long-term potential is very exciting.
