So wasn't the BIG behind the sanctions like 110%, so if the NCAA loses would the BIG stick with the sanctions, like still making us ineligible for the BIG title game, would the state/PSU have to sue the BIG too? What a pandoras box... should get interesting.

The B1G has no real interest in penalizing PSU. If they are smart, they agree to stay their penalties until this lawsuit is resolved and let the NCAA twist in the wind.

  • Boy, you have to wonder how much the NCAA pays lawyers just to defend its ass. First the players' images lawsuit that is working its way favorably through the courts, then the USC defamation case that is not looking good initially for the NCAA, now this.

With that being said, this is fantastic. Anything that will happen from this will be a bonus for PSU.

Yep. Have to be excited for PSU, but man Corbett is still such a POS. Luckily the benefit of his constant politicking is finally to PSU's benefit (after it was to PSU's detriment the past 6 months).

Like him or not he said what everyone on this board has been saying the past 6 months.

Yeah, it was pretty much word for word what the PSU message boards have been discussing for over a year now.

In the end, I am sure a lot of people would agree with me (most notably Jay Bilas lol), we wouldnt mind seeing the NCAA seize to exist at all.

Let the big power schools break up and do their own thing, such as be fair to student-athletes.

Nah, you need the NCAA. They just need to stick with keeping a "fair playing field" instead of going after criminal issues. They also need to figure out a way to sanction a school which will not hurt innocent athletes and fans. Not easy, but I think it can be done.

  • It's about damn time Pennsylvania leadership step up and do its job. I imagine with the resources at their disposal and political implications etc they have vetted this suit about as thoroughly as possible and feel strongly they will win. I can see the NCAA settling out of court for "time served" in the one year bowl loss and 10 Schollies lost this year. Mark Emmert will hopefully lose his job and now let's hope this spurs the BOT reform we have all been looking to achieve for some time. Go State!

The big thing is that this is not PSU going after the NCAA. That was the issue with all the message board talk. Too many potential problems with PSU bringing forth a case. I never thought that the state would get in on this, and honestly, they are probably the only ones with enough money and power to effectively fight the NCAA for us.

  • I bet Sean could chime in on collateral damage in the number of subscribers lost after the sanctions.

  • You think this would keep anyone off his back if they are from the other party....in other words you guys are cleve enough to see through this buty the new AG isn't...yeahy sure fellow geniuses. I welcome this...in the absence of any past leadership from the BOT or anyone at PSU is the past this is welcome. I think it is being done corrrectly...by the way there would never be a time when the skeptics would not claim it wasn't beign done for politcal purposes. That attitute is unproductive and boring really. We should all be thankful that someone is standing up for what is right in my nonpolitical humble opinion.

Lots more issues with the NCAA than keeping a "fair playing field."

I mean a lot of the issues fall under the general "fair playing field," but it is a lot of issues that the NCAA has done nothing about for years as they do not need to as they rule major college sports.

Actually, I recall lots of discussion of outsiders going with this lawsuit...Not much talk about the state of PA specifcally, but then again we talked about business owners and former players getting involved and it seems like they will be involved in this case as they are part of the commonwealth. The general counsel seemed to point toward these issues being addressed in the complaint.

Eh - I don't know if I agree with you there. They're taking our bowl proceedings for the years we're banned from bowl play, but not OSU's. IMO they're piling on just as the NCAA is.

Ironically, that's why I joined. I wanted to see how the coaching staff would handle recruiting given the adversity.

  • I have no problem with the timing of this announcement. Taking the time to do the due diligence is a smart move and will help them in this case.

I am a little worried about the time it will take to resolve this. If the NCAA agrees to suspend the sanctions until the court rules, then we are just hurting future recruiting classes and teams. I do not see a swift resolution to this.

Like that time the Baylor Basketball coach covered up the MURDER of one of his players by another player.... like that time??? This reminds me of when Len Bias died and people were coming hard after UMD basketball and wanting them punished even though Bias was out of college and going into the freaking NBA

i thought the sanctions in the Baylor case were based on the something that was uncovered during the investigation that was legitemately against the NCAA bylaws. From what i understand, the PSU football team has yet to have a major infraction set by the NCAA...

Yeah, I signed on after the scandal, as I knew it would probably be one of the better places to get my PSU news from as the media narrative outside was vengeful, hatefilled, and extremely opinionated.

Sean and the others kept it real. They wouldnt fluff stuff up for us, but they also wouldnt bash just to bash like outside media.

That was the point I was trying to make... there was no punishment for having actual murderers on the team and your coach obviously covering it up. The punishment was for basketball scholarship infractions.

  • Corbett set to sue NCAA over Penn State Sandusky sanctions

Gov. Corbett is expected to file a federal lawsuit Wednesday against the NCAA over what he contends are illegal sanctions that the organization imposed on Pennsylvania State University following the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal, his office announced New Year's Day.

Funny because the Pitt professor never even read the complaint yet.

What would be really badass is if PSU wins and get the sanctions lifted and the judge rules that any players can transfer into PSU's football program without penalty until psu hits 85 scholarship players... 0% chance of happening but it would be freaking awesome. A big F-U to the NCAA.

Too bad there is no one on Beckman's roster that we want tho

The same reporter should have read the articles from multiple legal scholars that said the NCAA did not have the right to sanction PSU in the first place because it was a legal matter not a competitiveness issue.
