Corbett: "The NCAA and Mark Emmert seized upon the opportunity for publicity."

"I know that many of you have many questions, such as why now? ... I wanted to thoroughly research the issue. And I didn't want to make the same mistake the NCAA did and carelessly rush into it.

"Penn State does have a moral responsibilty to the victims and the community. And it has accepted that responsibility. ... If the lawsuit is successful, I would suggest to the BOT they take the $60 million and use it to work for the abuse victims."

Oh wow, I hope he really backs up what he's saying. Can't wait to hear Emmert's response.

"This was a criminal matter, not a violation of NCAA rules."

Used general counsel and outside firm. Asked Linda Kelly to take a look at the suit. Has not conferred with Kathleen Kain (sp?) at this point.

Federal anti-trust lawsuit. I never thought I'd see the day. I don't really believe a word Corbett is saying about why he waited, especially after he's on record as saying they were acceptable. I'm a little disappointed that no reporter asked Corbett about why he backed the sanctions in July, but now is filing suit against them. But like in the movie School Ties, we'll use Corbett now after he used us previously.

I have no problem with the Athletic Dept. or University paying a fine... unacceptable things did go down at PSU and there should be punishment, like a fine, just the NCAA should not administer it or decide what it goes to.

General counsel Jim Schultz now at the podium.

"In this case, the NCAA didn't use their (usual) process at all. The executive board and the president went ahead on their own on this one, and that is prohibited by their bylaws."

Thought the exact same thing as I typed it.

Pay the $60 million, keep it in state, wipe out all the other sanctions. I'm good with that.

As happy as I am to FINALLY see someone fight back against the BS sanctions and NCAA hypocrisy, this should've been done back in the summer or even sooner.

It's to Corbett's benefit politically to defend PSU, it's not like he all of a sudden had an epiphany that the sanctions were unjust, more like he saw his poll numbers. But whatever his motivation for challenging the NCAA, I'm all for it!

The NCAA had no business whatsoever getting involved in a criminal proceeding or passing moral judgment on those involved.
