Wish him the best at Fordham. Unfortunate that it didn't work out here for him.
That should make 20 scholarships for 2013, with plenty of opportunity for more openings in the future (as 72 said, a glut of 4th year OL and WR's).

This was aimed at the OP, not gem.

IIRC Kolb was well regarded coming out of HS even though he was coming in off of an injury. I for one was happy to land him although I worried that weight/conditioning could be an issue. Apparently it was. Good luck at Fordham. Its a good school, where he can play some ball and get a good degree.

All those o lineman that transferred out (mateas, kolb, ricketts) must have been friends. They all came to a party at my house with the punter buttersworth last arts fest.

Didn't Sean mention him struggling with the S&C program? Seemed like the writing on the wall at that point.

yeah it's too harsh when he's a kid who busts his butt and stays out of trouble. It seems sleazy to me for fans to claim they love the team yet have no respect for players on it.

Yep, if the kid wants to graduate with a degree from PSU I say good for him. By the way not all players that get free rides are starters. Sheesh!

Define "stays out of trouble".
But yeah, I will admit, Figs is someone who annoyed me from day one. It's not his fault that the staff was dumb enough to offer him and for that I shouldn't knock him.

As indicated - there were back issues and he was unhappy with how the staff was dealing with his rehab which led to him leaving. Didn't know he went to Uconn, thx Jeff.

Not harsh when a lot of these players are getting a free ride at a college they wouldn't even qualify academically under the guise of playing some game for the entertainment of alumni.
If they can't do that part right it's no difference than someone on academic scholarship getting the boot after pulling a C average.
If the player doesn't respect the sacrifice they need to be a division one athlete it's on them, not the fan.

Glad BOB was up front with the kid to let him know there was not PT in his future. Let him get some PT at a small school.

I agree with line 2 and 3 but line one is a bit harsh. Certainly some recruits may be academically marginal but I would guess the majority would qualify on their own merit. Agree 100% they have to work both on and off the field to keep the free ride.

I mentioned this before that my summer intern is a member of the football team ( I wont say who). He was telling me last week that there were actually two lineman that BOB basically told "your out of shape and wont play at Penn State" and I guess suggested to them that it would be smart to transfer. I guess Kolb is one of those guys. From what I understand there is one more that he thought was transferring to JMU possibly, I just dont know who.
