I've never like Lane Kiffen, not that I've paid enough attention to him to form a knowledgable opinion....Mostly from what I've seen on ESPN and from general public opinion...we both know what that is worth.

Anyways, I don't think going after Silas is scummy. I hope Penn State reached out to Rutgers commits after Schiano left. Not exactly the same but similar.

Lets face it, many PSU fans are emotionaly drained, overly defensive, and with good reason. Probably time to lock this thread up.

I have no problem with LK going after Redd. Redd is a very good player. I'm talking about Kiffin's lack of ethics and coming across as sleazy. He isn't highly thought of in those categories. I'm totally stunned LK called BOB. It's not in LK's character to do that.

I'm just concerned for Silas. This is a high risk move for him.

Whether he sees it or not, he is risking everything if he goes to USC. His education, college friends, football career, personal legacy.

One injury (or anything odd) and all of that is gone. Loses everything.

If he stays at PSU, he keeps everything. Ask KiJana about what the PSU community has meant to him after his football career.

All schools that Kiffin has coached at hold him in high regards? That would be one year Freson, one year Colorado State and then USC. I'm not sure CSU holds him in high regards. We know Tennessee doesn't.

The way he left - telling recruits NOT TO SIGN THEIR NLI's with Tennessee after selling the program for XXX months ... not addressing his team and letting them know he was leaving ... that is bush league.

I have been around the block many years with regards to collegiate athletics. Have 16 years working in the field and have a strong network. I can tell you the only place that I have heard that likes Kiffin and thinks highly of is USC. Tennessee doesn't hold him in high regards. I can tell you that. And I'm talking about the school.

SID's talk all the time about coaches at conventions ... I will just leave it at that.

He isn't as highly respected as you think.

Well, since you misrepresent by ignoring the national presser where he announced to the TN team he was leaving, and you ignore my statement EXCEPTING TN he is in good standing with the other schools he coached (which includes the present Cal HC, and the many asst coaches he worked with at CoState, Fresno State and USC, and you choose to believe faulty sources rather then the TN recruits themselves and former TN players, and ignore the correction about minor infractions as compared to other SEC schools in the same time frame, and TN is so relieved to have such a fine coach as Dooley. I will not try to enter your impregnable mind. Even Raider players were fans

I came in good faith to commisurate and straighten out some facts. Sorry you are not the usual PSU fans that have interacted with USC through the years

LK announced to his team that he was leaving in a national press conference? Really?

  • I just wanted to address something... a large percentage of the FightOn board came here the moment the sanctions were announced to give our condolences. The fact of the matter is that ONLY Alabama and USC fans know what Penn St is going through (and perhaps SMU fans if they exist any more).

Penn St fans have seen some ugly years and you still support your team - so you will survive through the sanctions and Penn St football will never die because your fanbase is truly loyal. I'll be cheering for Penn St as my favorite B1G team from now on.

    Fight on.

  • I haven't read through this whole thread so I don't exactly know how it's gone.
I'm just gonna say that I hope it hasn't evolved into going at it with USC fans. They have been nothing but total class to us and our emotions are running at an all-time high. I just hope whatever frustrations we have haven't been directed at them unfairly. Quite frankly, they've all been fantastic and I want to acknowledge that - regardless of what any of us may think about Lane Kiffin.

The USC fans have been some of the most rational, level-headed visiting fans we've had on this board in my opinion. No need to worry.

BS. If a WO earns a scholly you see it through. I know its not against the rules, but its sleazy to play games with these kids on a yearly basis IMO.

You're right. How dare he "play games" by giving the player and his family his tuition back at an extremely expensive private university, for only one year!!!!!!!!!!

I get that some of you guys are pissed at the world right now, but some of you have no perspective and are just looking for reasons to be pissed off.

Aim the anger at the right people.

If he has to resort to taking a schollie away from a walk on (again, IF he has to, not saying that's is what would happen), I think it's everyone's right to aim some anger at him.

But then again, most of the anger should be pointed at Emmert, because that is his idea of the proper "culture" college football should have.

Looks like Silas has quite a decision to make. Pretty different schools.

Can tell you one thing, they sure don't care about him as a person. One injury, not a star, and he's just another guy to throw in the garbage. The transfer would probably throw off his academic work too.

Those posts really helped me understand what Silas would be giving up. Basically he will have no home in the future.

If he goes to USC, he's just another hired gun. PSU would never forget it.

If he stays and lead his team, he is a hero forever.

Yes. USC just disposes of players who can't get on the field...take a couple of minutes to educate yourself.

Telfort adjusting to life after football

Frankie Telfort's career as a football player was cut short, but USC is still honoring his scholarship.

In that case it will be clear to me that those who aim that anger at him if that situation comes up, are looking for a reason to do so.

He gave a scholly to several kids who had already prepared to pay for all of their years at the school. I just don't see how that can be viewed as dirty in any way. Regardless of what he decides to do with the scholly in year 2.

I think he's referring to the fact that USC does not have the required coursework for his major. I think this is the case and has been discussed briefly. I think what he means is that if he goes to USC, it's NFL or bust since his academics would be all screwed up. But if he stays at PSU, he still has a great shot at the NFL and his academics are still taken care of.

  • Is that true that USC doesn't have the required courses for his major?
And is it confirmed that he's flying out there?

Giving someone a schollie to reward their hard work and progress, only to take it away at the last second because the NCAA gave you the thumbs up to poach someone's player, a practice which Lane himself was very pouty about quite recently, is cheap and dirty any way you look at it. Most of the blame falls on Marky Emmert, but some still falls on Kiffin for being an indian giver.

Is announcing that he was leaving on a national press conference really addressing your team, or former team? Nope.
