I think you're trying to be diplomatic/nice to the OP and that's generous of you. You can stop hoping that Ken Frazier is a man of conviction though....he's already shown that he is not.

You are absolutely right in the sense that I am not a fan of Frazier's in the slightest, but I do hope that some of these so-called "leaders" would humble themselves and start righting their wrongs. In all reality, there will be no true justice because of what JS did to those kids, but I also don't believe the healing process will start for PSU nation because we were wronged for the wrongs of an evil man. The NCAA and BOT only made the situation worse by not being diligent, and we all know that, but I think those wrongs can still be righted and I still hold hope that we can get some justice in that facet of this tragedy.

As for the families and victims of JS, the only thing we can offer them is prayer, but I also have no problem or issues with the settlements they receive. That still wont right what Jerry did to them, but I hope they continue to heal as they move on in their lives.

I entered into the conversation with sentiments similar to RWC and PSUMichael. After hearing his side of the story from 2 inches away (not exaggerating) I came away with a different perspective. He was extremely passionate about the subject and took 30 minutes away from business to speak with me about PSU. He dismissed 3 of his subordinates who attempted to end our conversation. TFIW

In life it's not what you say but what you do. He may talk a good game now but in every important way he has failed miserably. He lacked the courage to act when he had the opportunity. His penn st stewardship will now be forever defined by his lack of courage. Nothing he says can change that.

  • dgstrane To be clear It was his opinion and he had no facts on C&S beyond what was layed out in the Freeh report. I do not think the conviction of C&S is necessarily bad for PSU. Yes they were required to report suspected child abuse. It is reasonable to assume after the 98 incident was thoroughly investigated by authorities with no charges filed, C&S after speaking with counsel determined the shower incident was more of the same. Bad Judgement maybe, but certainly not indicative of a culture problem. People make mistakes. A friend of mine was mentored by C and has only positive to things to say about his character.

    LionInWinter

  • Excuse my french, but JHC he's still basing his thoughts on the Freeh report? Are you F'n serious? The same report that he supposedly warned the admin about not thoroughly reading, releasing, etc.? I loathe Berman, but "Come On Man!".

Sounds like everybody has something nice to say about everybody until it doesn't benefit them to do so.
Quite frankly, Ken Frazier can kiss my ass. If you feel so strongly about Joe, then stand up and say something. If not, then you didn't learn a damn thing from Joe. Your time to do so has passed, Ken.
    F@&K you.

  • palehorse: he referenced two items. 1)C or S apparently contacted a lawyer immediately after speaking with Joe to discuss "suspected child abuse" 2) that same person then referenced this conversation in a bullet point. It seems the problem is your required by law to report "suspected" child abuse.

    LionInWinter

  • That makes a lot more sense. If he was basing his thoughts solely on Freeh, I would really question his process at this stage in the game. I guess it depends on what your definition of "suspected" is. Man, now i feel like Clinton.(with better taste in women of course)

Is it not true, in 2001 the requirement was to report to the person's employer? In JS's case, The Second Mile (Raycovitz); contractor for PA DPW/CYS in adoptions & foster care.

Besides, it is unclear what MM reported in 2001.

  • I'm glad he took 30 min of his time to stand up for Joe & the university with no one watching.

If he only took one minute to stand up for Joe when the world was watching at any of the following: Nov 2011, Freeh Report, vote on the sanctions, every BofT meeting since Nov 2011. He is a pussy. He feels the political winds blowing the other way & wants to get onboard. Much, much too late.

He was instrumental in bringing in Freeh. Now you think after spending 30 min with this clown that you know him . Look at his actions in the last 2 yrs, not a man crush meeting for 30 min during lunch at the country club.

Not good at all. I can envision a scenario in which PSU loses its suit against the NCAA and Spanier/Curley/Schultz all get convicted in about a month of each other.

ESPN would love that. PSU would be their lead story nightly for weeks, if not months.

  • Jim: Ken said he was solely responsible for hiring Louis Freeh. Don't Forget their were many on this board who expected the Freeh report to be more generous of PSU. It was only after a few months when we all got wind of the investigators line of questioning that people became worried. Even that didn't prepare me personally for Freeh's pompous grandstanding delivery and unsubstantiated conclusions.

Thanks for the clarification and hope you're right if C&S are indeed convicted. However, based on how it played out previously, I'd be willing to bet most of the public (and the lazy press) will equate convictions with a cover up.

  • Jim: I did not plan this meeting. He happened to be at an awards ceremony today and I decided spontaneously to crash it and ask questions about the Freeh report and Joe. If I choose to visit him in North Jersey I would be glad to bring any questions from members of this board. Career repercussions are not an issue, I will bring tough questions.

Why did the scope of work become smaller over time? In Frazier's initial press conference, he stated that all aspects would be investigated. Including the BOT and police. They also stated that the timeframe would stretch to approx 1974.

In the final report, Freeh's scope of work was only to 1998, and restricted only to the athletic dept and on campus youth programs. No mention of the BOT, police, etc.

Why? And who agreed to do that?

Let's also not forget it was Frazier who was in charge of hiring the "Fact Freeh Report", the same report that the University is suing now to stop from having the contract released to the public. What happened to transparency?

I have also exchanged emails with Mr. Frazier that are a contradiction to what was posted here.

  • When the OP was talking to Frazier the Crocodile Dundee test should have been performed.

    LBU59

  • screw him. he is a terrible person, don't buy his attempts to fake it now. It's comical how everyone is now trying to be nice and say good things about Paterno in the aftermath after they sold him out when it mattered. Frazier is corporate scum and playing politics with you.

    Lion:
First, I know somene who is friends with Frazier & thinks he is great. He is essentially her boss but she likes him alot. Im not saying the guy is bad, I do think he tried to protect his self-interests more than the interests of the university - I think alot of board members fall under this fact - and had no problem blaming the dead guy if it takes the heat off of him and the other board members.

Second, if you dont know Frazier & decided to crash a ceremony to confront him about the Freeh report, Joe & PSU, I would give you huge credit. I just dont think it happened that way. I have no facts to back that up (similiar to Freeh), just a hunch & Id be happy to be wrong.

Third, my hunch is based on the following - the fact that you can choose to visit him in New Jersey & bring questions from members indicates possibly a friendship with him. being friends with him is not a problem but to give the impression that you just "crashed" a ceremony to question him, is abit different than this is my friend so i stopped by & we began to talk about PSU, Joe & the Freeh Report.

Fourth, if people on this board believed that Freeh was going to be generous to Joe, I would like to have their IQ checked. No one I knew thought that to be. I personally believed that after the Board fired Joe & hired Freeh, it was Freeh's sole repsonibility to justify the firing of Joe as they believed Joe would be filing a lawsuit against them. I do not believe that the Board thought too far in advance about NCAA sanctions as most people believed they couldnt issue sanctions. Unfortunately, the NCAA used the Freeh report, which was only to justify the Board firing of Joe & Spanier & Curley & Schultze, but took on a life of its own. The Board knew the outcome would be - its everyone else's fault not ours & they were getting updates from Freeh through Frazier - so they were comfortable allowing reeh hold a press ocnference without reviewing the report, but by not controlling Freeh, they lost control of the message & the spin went crazy. because they were lost they didnt say anything, PSU never said anything & no one was comtradicting the report. how can the Board who hired this guy & paid him more than $6.5 million now say that the report is a joke. They just spent $6.5 million to blame a dead guy & Freeh doesnt say anything bad against a single board member. if they blast Freeh, he can come at Frazier & others that he was hired for a specific purpose. So Freeh has them by the balls. That is my take on it. Ask Ken if Im correct. he'll deny it but Id love to see where Im wrong.

Fifth, if you can bring questions to Frazier, let us start a new thread with the questions we would lke asked. I can start with a few, (1) why did you hire the guy who screwed up the Atlanta bombe, FBI drug lab evdience, 9/11 etc., (2) why didnt the Board get to review the report before it was released, (3) why didnt the board bring Freeh to the BOard to at least as questions of the report, questions assumptions made, or vote to reject the report for failing to intereview every single fact witness involved in the Sandusky scandal, (4) why did you allow Erickson to sign the consent decree, (5) why didnt you inform other member of the Board about the consent decree before it was signed, (6) why do you believe the Freeh Report, (7) why do you believe that Joe Paterno conspired with others to coverup for a guy Paterno hated, (8) do you believe McQuery is telling the truth as to what h told Curley and Schultz, (9) do you believe that McQuery actually saw anything in the shower & if so, why would he tell his father & Dr Dranov & Joe Pa he didnt but tell Curley & schultz he did, (10) do you believe Joe is telling the truth, (11) do you believe that Freeh Report iscomplete & assumptions are correct, if so why, (12) why doesnt everyone on the board resign since no one did their job questioning Spanier, and some have been on the Board since 1998 when these actions are alleged to have occurred.

I will get more but can you have Ken answer those questions & get back to us.
Thanks, I do appreciate you trying to get answers but I would reserve applauding the actions of Ken Frazier on any PSU board b.c most of us believe he failed us as a board member.

Spoke to Ken for 30 minutes today.
    1) "Joe Paterno is a great man"
    2) "The people around Joe failed him." After meeting with Joe the administrator discussed suspected child abuse with an attorney.
    3) Does not expect an acquittal

    Freeh report:
Informed those in charge that they were "abdicating" their responsibility by not scrutinizing the Freeh report before releasing it to the Public.

    Sanctions:
Confirmed Erickson was threatened with the Death Penalty.

    Ken Frazier.
1)A Fighter. The most passionate and intense man I have met, easy to see why he has been successful at every level.
2)Straight shooter. He did not mince words or speak in politically correct terms, the exact opposite.
    3) Extraordinary memory and recall of details. Reminded me of Joe in that Respect.
    3) loves Penn State
    3) Never removed a picture of Joe from his office.
    4) Son was accepted to Penn State and U of Penn. Emphatically advised his son to attend Penn State.
    5) Would love to see him as President of PSU.
    6) Invited me to see his handwritten letters from Joe.

Regardless of people's opinions of Frazier, I do appreciate you sharing the story. Thanks for posting.
