Kelly to charge Dr. Spanier

  • Linda Kelly asked if Joe Paterno would be charged if he were alive today. She won't speculate. "He's deceased and that's the end of it."

Wow. The media is determined to drag Paterno through the mud.

You had to know that would be the first question.

  • Here's a bit of positive press. Much as I hate PSU being associated with child abuse for the next (???) years, things like this can help to flip the script, and actually make a difference for children, as opposed to all the other crap...

  • Those who have complained about the Freeh Report should be glad this will all play out now in the legal system. Endangering the welfare of children and failure to report are serious charges. The truth will now have to be revealed in court. Let the truth be known.

  • My conspiracy theory. The current AG saw the polls and thought the Dem would not bring charges against GS. Therefore, do it now to get the wheels in motion.

State College, PA - Spanier, Curley and Schultz Charged with Five Counts in 'Conspiracy of Silence'

Three former top Penn State administrators – Tim Curley, Gary Schultz and Graham Spanier – each face five counts in connection to their involvement with the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse case.

Not true about the LBU59 post above.

This AP story says the email subject is "Joe Paterno" but it's actually "Jerry". Do they just make stuff up to keep Paterno involved?

And how could Freeh even think that was a reference to JVP? It's obviously Jerry. Unbelievable.

That's all it looked like to me when they referenced "e-mails" and "hand written notes".

Seems a bit of a stretch to me. However, maybe they wanted to get this charge in now and then start more discovery and try to find more evidence or something? I have no clue how the legal system works...surely it's more complicated than Law & Order SVU

If it works out like that, genius.

Also I doubt that all they have is the Freeh Report. It was never meant as a legal document, no one expects it to be a key piece of evidence. If that's what they are going off of, not good for them.

Point 1: My friend and I have been guessing this for some time. I admit that I was not expecting it to be a political power play, but this works flawlessly on two levels - political, and practical as far as the trials are concerned.

Point 2: Agree. They don't come just on the Freeh report. Unless they think they can dupe the public again.

There were two emails from Curley in1998. One had the heading of "Joe paterno," the other one had the heading of "jerry"

Seems like some new stuff to me from what I've seen. I'm confused over the involvement of the lawyer in '01 where the billable hours were charged under "suspected child abuse" and then the inquiry made for the file re: the 98 incident.

I guess the part that blows my mind is how the report in 98 wasn't filed under a typical criminal investigation as to keep the media from finding out.

It just seems like the whole time all parties involved used code words to keep the media from finding out as to not ruin the reputation of the University.......

So they just combined the emails?

EDIT: OK, I see that one. Obviously Joe knew all about it then.

I'm not saying he knew all about it. He even said himself that he thought it may have been discussed in his presence.

But you know what? It doesn't matter. That case was dropped by the DA and DPW. I don't understand people's obsession over the 1998 incident. It was fully investigated and dropped by the police. There's no conspiracy there.

Absolutely correct. In 2001, they were operating with the only data from 1998 being that JS was exonerated.

Well then that should make all the "Freeh Stooges" and "Joe is a saint" people happy.

You couldn't challenge the Freeh Report in front of a judge but Spanier and the rest can all challenge this stuff or have it dug into even further.

One way or another some stuff will come to light
