  • Last year at this time I believe we only had Stanko commit. This year we already have a franchise QB, the #1 TE, a top 5 DE, etc. I wanted Danny badly, but it is not like we will have less talent at QB than we did last year. They can only get better under a coaching staff that coaches and intructs. ND is a player in recruiting, and I am glad MM went there instead of a B1G school..the same for Switzer going to UNC, who we will not play. This year we may take some bumps on the field, but we are way ahead of last year's recruiting and quite frankly losing a 3 star WR will not kill us. I think if we all were told 3 months ago we would have the commits that we currently do right now we would have thought that Saban or Meyer was our HC!!! As you can tell I am having a glass is half full day!

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

  • Cam Williams and Brent Wilkerson had also committed by this time last year (just barely, though).

The last 6 days have been pretty rough, but schools lose out on kids. Just the name of the game when you're dealing with teenagers. We'll end up with a fine class all the same, IMO.

  • Well said. I've always followed the team on the field, but with the events of last fall I started to follow things more closely and started to really get into the recruiting, so a lof of this emotion is new to me. Took a deep breath last night and realized that we'll be fine because We Are!!

  • Honestly, I never get upset or wrapped up in losing recruits. The whole thing is a crapshoot. No one knows whether the guys we get instead of Switzer and MM will end up being better than them. Yeah, you want to get the guys you identify first, but oftern the incremental difference between the guy you lose and the guy you replace him with is not that great. So what if we lose Switzer. Good luck to him whereever he ends up. Get the next guy up and coach him up to the system you play.

In my book, however, DOB was a bit different, because he was not an unknown recruit - he was more of a known quantity, having played two years in NCAA D1 football (not to mention at a position of need for us). It gets more difficult with those situations. However, again, it's still a crapshoot given the unknown nature of PJ.

I wasn't sure when they committed..I knew they were the next 2. Thank you!

  • To me the DOB "loss" is the one taking the wind out of the sails. With our QB situation in a shambles, I thought DOB was the savior. I accounted for him helping us to 1-2 more wins than we might have had otherwise THIS season. That is teh one I have a hard time shaking.

  • It's all part of the recruiting process. You win some and you lose some. Gotta move on to the next guy and hope we can land him. Switzer wasn't a game breaker and isn't going to kill our recruiting moving forward. IMO, losing out on Danny O'Brien hurt the most because he would be a 2 year starter at QB for us. Then I would put the MM commitment. Switzer is last. Time for the staff to put the full court press on Lemelle or somebody else to fill that slot position in this cycle.

  • Still waiting for everyone to change their feminine napkins.......

Good grief. We lost two recruits and a possible QB transfer...in March. Put your big boy pants on. This isn't last November.

That is funny but is it really necessary? I, like many others, have started to follow things more closely because of last November. We are not veterans of how recruiting works, but we do understand that it is early. You have to admit, after all the bad that happened, we had a lot of positive momentum and it was nice. Even though I am a rookie at this and there is a long way to go, losing 3 possible players in a 5 day time span does sting a little. It has been less than 24 hours, but everyone will be ok.

  • do we really need a "ra ra" post? keep the faith?? my god people need to stop acting like the world is ending. geeeeeez. they were 3 (!!!!) kids we lost out on. lots of fish in the sea. no need for a "keep the faith" post......

  • Frankly, I get a little sick of the extreme up and down nature of these boards. A three star kid commits and people say we're going to win a national championship. A three star kid commits elsewhere and suddenly BOB can't seal the deal and we'll never win the division again.

Winning football games is hard. Recruiting good football players is hard. Sometimes you're going to lose some. Sometimes you're going to win some. Going off the deep end after every little setback is not only not healthy, it literally makes these boards at times intolerable.

Truth. The last couple of days have been an "aww shucks" for me.

I get way more pissed when the staff isn't doing their jobs correctly. The 2011 class was the most painful to watch in the first 11 months. No one was committing early, and the staff wasn't even send out offers until WAY too late. We had kids that were begging for attention and we just screwed up horribly. A little bit of that happened last year as well (see Muller) but it was tollerable.

    getmyjive11

  • The only thing that bothers me in all this is that I think we lost Switzer due to the Sandusky stench i.e. His mother did not like us.

    So true.

Switz was a nice prospect, and McGlinchey is a stud, but Williams is one of the top targets on the board period, and one that we need much more than a slot receiver.

DWilliams is similar to AB and potentially Foster, in terms of making a statement that PSU will be keeping the top PA talent at home. If he commits, all of this will fade and we'll get some momentum going again.

  • It is what it is, is my favorite saying, and applies to yesterday and this past week perfectly. In the middle of all the meltdowns yesterday, I got really great news that over-shadowed everything - I don't have cancer. It's all about keeping things in perspective. Teenage boys are allowed to change their minds for whatever reason, as it is their choice to make. Let's help the new commits that we do have, restore the roar, with pride and dignity. After all, WE ARE.....
