Just wanted to say...

  • I hope this doesn't effect your football program too much...I think its better when the traditional Big 10 powerhouses are at their strongest point...This whole scandal is sad...and hope your program just moves on to be the great school and program that it is...Good luck next season!

  • Thanks. I just wanted to say that I cant believe that 4 intelligent individuals were so stupid for so long. Personally I admit my opinion of Joe is changed, probably forever. I can go to games this fall and support the team knowing that none of these 4 are accosiated with my school anymore.

Win/loss records dont matter to me today. This is bigger than sports.

  • Thank you. Appreciated. Living in Columbus I think most OSU fans 3/4 feel the same way at least towards me.

  • Agreed with kjc. There will be a time for football soon. Today we revisit the sorrow that was brought to many kids due to really bad mistakes of a number of people. Not just 4 Penn Sate leaders, but the Second Mile leadership, University Council, etc.

    Tragic failures all around.

  • Appreciate it.

Frankly, I think some sanctions are in order, though not sure what level. Most of this is not related to the football program, but there's a few things that are questionable that do relate to it.

In the end, I think the best solution is following any recommendations to prevent future instances of this from occurring, and doing whatever is possible (psychological help, inter alia) to help the victims.

  • As a WVU fan it doesn't really effect me in any way. But, I feel for the fan base and players they don't deserve what has happened. Hope you are able to move on and get back to being the great program you have been over the years. It sucks how so few can effect so many. Keep your heads up and remember it could always be worse...you could be sPitt fans.

I can't speak for all Husker fans but I know the majority of us feel the same way. This is very tragic but we hope your school and program can eventually move forward from this. It sounds like Penn St. is doing everything they can right now to handle this the right way. GL Lions, I feel for your fans and players.

Can you give me an example of what, from the context/perspective of athletics, Penn State did wrong here?

  • Thanks to those of you from other schools for feeling our pain. Times like these show you who your true friends and enemies are. Hopefully some of us are keeping score.

Almost every Ohio State fan (and football fan in general) knows full well that 99.9% of Penn Staters are horrified at this entire situation, do not condone it and wish that Sandusky had been reported to the police immediately 15 years ago when this all started.

Who cares about a rivalry between our schools on the football field right now? This isn't a football matter, in my eyes. This is a criminal matter and a moral failure of a few men at the pinnacle of power. Unfortunately for PSU folks, one of those men was the icon of the program that everybody has and always will associate with PSU football.

I think everyone at Ohio State or anywhere else would still be just as outraged if this had happened at Alabama, Washington or Vermont Polytechnical School. But the publicity has been overboard since it cost Joe Paterno his job and reputation.

I wrote this on our board at Bucknuts in discussion with tdiddy but I wanted to venture over here as well: I don't think the NCAA will do anything serious in terms of sanctions. They'll act serious and probably create a joint task force or something in the next couple months.

But in the end, I think they'll slap minimal sanctions on the Athletic Department under the clause of 'ethics' and then step back. They won't do anything serious beyond looking serious because they know that the real future concern for Penn State is the massive lawsuit load that is waiting from these victims now that the Freeh report has come out.

And that's going to hurt more than football, unfortunately.

Bottom line is that this is a really sad situation and no one should be enjoying the fallout at you guys' expense. Good luck guys.

I appreciate your levelheaded opinion Bax. We all have our differences, but this goes beyond those and calling for a whole university to get wiped off the face of the planet will not help anything. Thank you. clap

Not to mention calling for what is a pretty highly rated university (one that some of my friends have degrees from, I might add) in most aspects to get wiped out seems more than just counterproductive. Particularly when that school has to defend what I've seen estimated as high as $300 million in lawsuits..........

Plus, what did Moxie McGloin, Devin Still, The Poz, Dan O'Connor, Greg Webb, Hackenburg and anyone else who played/will play on the team have to do with this coverup? Nothing. Unless something comes out and a guy like Vanderlinden or Johnson had knowledge then the current team and staff aren't the problem.

The NCAA is the worst organization in sports because often they don't punish the people who actually committed any violations (see: Bush, Reggie and Carroll, Pete) and instead punish kids who are accused of no wrongdoing years down the line.

Arguably the greatest post by a buckeye fan ever. At least on this board. Props to the op as well.

  • Baximus, remember that time you wrote an article on Bucknuts saying:

"Which is why it was so shocking to me that Dr. Anzalone brazenly told the Reading Eagle that “Something’s just not right at Ohio State” when the sex offender news broke. Now, I know that the sound-minded folks of Central Pennsylvania (which regrettably doesn’t include the hamlet of State College) are extraordinarily sensitive to stuff like this in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal right down the road, but to imply that something was wrong at Ohio State vis-à-vis sex offenses is the height of irresponsibility.

One place is a Podunk mountain town which still doesn’t get the full implications of having an icon raping little boys in their football building. The other is in a major city where quick and decisive action was taken by the university to protect their students from a creeper who was in no way associated with the institution and never will be. "

    I do.

lol, I thought I remembered some clown self-proclaiming himself as "The People's Champion" from Bucknuts. He is actually allowed to write articles for them.

I am sure he is bashing us over on Bucknuts on VIP while fetching for +1s here.

So is that 0.1% of Penn Staters that "podunk mountain town". Get lost troll nobody wants you here. Why don't you go harass a 17 year old kid and his family for making a decision that you disagree with.

  • It was actually only ONE thousand who "rioted" in the streets. I know Tom Rinaldi made it seem as if he was in the middle of Afghanistan getting barraged by artillery when he was hit in the leg with a pebble, but it was actually a very small (less than 3%) portion of the student population.
Furthermore, later that week, over 10,000 (25%) students gathered at the HUB lawn to hold a candlelight vigil for the victims... In the freezing cold on a FRIDAY NIGHT mind you.
Did you ever do that at 10pm on a Friday night when you were in college?

This isn't an attack on you and I appreciate your post and sentiments, but as a student I get pretty damn sick and tired of being labeled as football crazy and insensitive when I've partaken in several efforts to aid RAINN and my broke college student ass has given more out of pocket for the cause than any of these media blowhard judgmental asshats that attack me and my University.
