Just finished reading Paterno

  • by Joe Posnanski. I don't want to give away anything because I don't want to ruin the book for those that have yet to read it. I will say it was a fantastic book and I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it to anyone, not just Penn State fans, that wants to know what Joe Paterno was all about.

  • I concur. It was a very good read and provided a balanced view inside Paterno's life.

  • i loved it, very well written

  • I have it on iBooks...great book! I truly believe he didn't know more than what he told Posnanski. Look at his life, look what he was about. Granted, he had closed practices, yelled at kids, etc...that's part of football. His overall cause and who he was leads me strongly to believe he gave us all he knew. I've defended JoePa on Facebook with friends that see him as covering this up. I'll do it all day, every day. If he did know more, was more involved (which I highly doubt), I will gladly eat crow.

Anyone that doubts his truthfulness should read this book. There's no chance he knew the real sandusky.

hell, he didn't even really like him...why would he hide what Sandusky did? If he knew (regardless if he liked him or not) he should have exposed him.

  • I've only read a small fraction of the book, but joe pos puts forward a pretty compelling argument that joe pat either didn't know about 1998, or knew very little. And wouldn't have covered up for sandusky.

Which brings us to todays question. Given that joe pos had unprecedented access to joe paterno, and joe paterno's handwritten notes and files, why didn't freeh interview joe pos?

They didn't want to interview anyone or ask questions that didn't point them in the direction they wanted the investigation to go.

  • Started reading it and it was really good. My friend got me hooked on the Game of Thrones show and I picked up the book and am devouring that.

Oh man, I've read all the Game of Thrones books. They are fantastic. The later ones start to get a little confusing with all the new names, but they are still awesome.
I loved the hbo season one so between season 1 and 2, I read all the books. I think the books ruined the show for me somewhat.

I did not know freeh didn't interview Joe Posnanski. I guess it's not surprising. Do you know if Posnanski ever said anything publicly about why he wasn't interviewed by free?

I am only on the first book which is very similar to the first season. I hear that the second season changes a lot. I can see how the writers could get sick of copying verbatim what happens in the books, I mean whatever happened to artist integrity.

  • I felt the same way after finishing "Paterno". Great book and No Way did Joe know and do nothing-couldn't have made any sense with the character that he was his whole life! How bout the "shyster story"? Loved that one!

  • second book and second season are pretty spot on in my opinion...obviously hbo adds things like sex to spice it up but alot of the dialouge was the same

    Pac_Lion

  • HBO follows the books as closely as possible.. no way they could add so many characters, would be hard to follow in 10 1 hour episodes.

I am almost finished with book 5 and i'm almost depressed.. the writer has been known to take his time between books, has already planned book 6 and 7 but it could be years before they are published.
