This is it. Bottom line..senior 6-5 WR who is a Captain playing a 1aa school HAS to catch that ball.

playing a 1aa school dropping it doesnt matter... playing number 2 you have to reel that in. No way you get two opprotunities like that

  • That pass to Moye should have been a TD, that was all on Moye.

    doc6948299

  • I think some of you are forgetting that Moye could have been expecting a McGloin ball and got a Bolden ball (which I've always believed meant surprise that the ball actually got to him and wasn't caught by a defender first)

QBs- .. The drop was terrible by Moye

McGloin looked OK he brought some tempo but still locks on and makes bad decisions...

Overall F We need a major jump

WRs - Poor routes, concentration and effort F

DL - DTs A DEs F Crawford is so damn weak once someone gets their hands on him he is done...

S - Astorino looked like a totally different player he was awesome today and needs to stay deep and aggressive

STs - kicker sucks we need Fera back badly...

I agree with most of what you've said. Above is what stood out (for the worse) for me. I was VERY disappointed with our WR's and DE's.
There was NO penetration from the outside at all.
Still hate how deep our CB's play off the line.
Our WR's could not seem to get open, as you said, their route running was not sharp, they just looked too casual and lacked concentration.
RB's have to learn to pick up the blitz and at least get some sort of contact on the blitzer.
    OL pass blocking was terrible.

Skyler Mornhinweg may be our next great hope, if anything, because he'll have his dad to work with outside of Jay. Jay can not coach QB's. Neither of those 2 yesterday looked good, neither looked as if they had improved from last year, and that was against an FCS defense . The best QB on the field was the guy on the other team. I don't know that this whole "dual" QB approach is healthy for either of these kids. Both just seemed terrified to make a mistake with the other looking over his shoulder. Both seemed tentative, indecisive and uptight. We need to name one starter, stick with him and take some of this pressure off them. And call a better game from the sidelines too.

^^ all this against a bad FCS school too.

    springbok

  • Both QBs looked bad.

But the play calling for Rob in the first half was a bit suspect. McGloin got all the RB screens and easy passes, RoBo has to chuck it deep right out of the gate.

Sad though, it looks like neither QB improved from last year. Seems that should fall on the QB coach, no? Whether it's an issue of scouting/developing/recruiting something is off in terms of QB play at Happy Valley. Rob has the arm strength but seems to get tunnel vision and his footwork wasn't great. McGloin thinks he's Favre and has the arm to get away with things.

Maybe the team can go like 70-30 run/pass and get lucky with some play action. If not it might be a long long year.

    DE's were weak.

Joe needs to let Fera back on the team. Who cares if he likes to drink? IF he let Tony Johnson play after driving down Atherton in a BMW at 2x the legal limit he should let Fera kick....

Moye called it a "perfect" pass.

Well I guess Moye is wrong then since some of the posters here think it was horrible.

McLovin would have thrown it perfectly, amirite?

As I saw the play.... Moye beat his man Bolden saw him and did not step into his throw he put too much loft on it and it made Moye slow down... He then has it hit his hands and as he flubs it the DB hits him and the ball hits the ground..

If Bolden leads him Moye runs through it and does not need to slow up... bad play for both

Its funny how subjective a football play can be. One person watches it and thinks its good while another person thinks it was a bad play. This is a perfect example. Philafan thinks the ball was "lofted" to much. On the other hand, Jack Ham was talking on the radio about how it was a great pass with good touch and if it had been thrown more on a line the DB would have been able to get a hand on it but because it was thrown with such arch it dropped over DB and into Moye's hands without the DB getting a hand on it. Then, Moye.....dropped it.

Moye (the only person whose opinion matters) thinks philafan has no idea what he's talking about and should listen to Jack Ham.

  • Moye also said he had to slow up and wait on the ball and the defender came into the play and that affected him

So he took the opinion of Ham that it was a perfect pass and the one of myself that it did not hit him in stride and combined it......

Re watched it and I still think it needed to be another 5 yards in front of him

Here's the quote. Where did he say he had to slow down? Going up for the ball means extending his arms towards the ball and getting it rather than waiting for it to land in his hands.

Q: The long pass from Rob [Bolden], could you walk us through that. Did you feel like you had a good spot on it?

A: Well, he threw a perfect pass and the defender just got in there at the last second. I think I should've actually gone up for the ball. I kind of waited for it to come to me. I thought I had him beat more than I actually did.

Edit: I had to pick up my daughter mid-entry and apparently"pocket dialed" the post button.

Well when he said he "Kine of waited for it to come to me" that to me says the ball did not hit him in stride which would not make it a "perfect" pass

Also a perfect pass should not have a defender get in their at the last second and disrupt it so much

Overall we won and did it without much of an issue so that is good to see...

On Offense it was a weird day... We ran them over blocked so well and opened HUGE HOLES.......We then could not block Joe if he was a pass rusher.... so that is a HUGE concern and not a good sign..

QBs- Sorry it is over for ROBO the kid is a robot and looks so awkward out there... The drop was terrible by Moye but he under threw it and avoided stepping up and putting it on the money... Robo also was locked onto his left side and refuses to slide... He brought zero tempo and just looked bad. I saw zero improvement from last year...

McGloin looked OK he brought some tempo but still locks on and makes bad decisions...

Overall F We need a major jump

RBs - Redd, BB , Zordich repeat those guys can all play at an elite level

Overall A keep it up and getting reps and we will win some games

WRs - Poor routes, concentration and effort F

OL - C we ran well and Joe KOed Bolden at one point on the rush

DL - DTs A DEs F Crawford is so damn weak once someone gets their hands on him he is done...

LBers B - did not stand out but did not have a reason too...

CBs - B same as LBers

S - Astorino looked like a totally different player he was awesome today and needs to stay deep and aggressive

STs - returns were good kicker sucks we need Fera back badly...

Crowd was pretty good for being so hot and such an weak opponent...

LOVED the new faces in the stands seemed like a lot of the older generation was not there lets hope it stays that way we need new blood and some energy this year

All in all a solid C for the day... I would let ROBO start against Bama since they will get a kill shot on our QB (our OLINE WAS rough) so let the guy who refuses to figure it out take the hit then see if McGloin can do anything...

I think we can beat BAMA but we need to get a QB to figure it out and we need our DEs / OL to sack up and stop being so damn soft

I had to stop at "..he under threw it.." It was PERFECT and Moye didn't have to slow down an inch.

Go watch MM throw to Moye in the 2nd....THAT is what underthrown looks like.

But you're right...it's over for the true soph because he refuses to slide. headslap

Ball was thrown very high..... too much arch caused Moye to come to a near stop and the DB to get in and make a play

That was an intentional underthrow, and the correct throw. We could have done that all day from early on I think, as on that throw, it was an unbrella d out there. Thrown under, as it was, made it uncontested. That was a good choice there.

    I think so too.

The ball was well thrown. Moye is saying he would have been more aggressive catching the ball away from his body if he thought the DB was as close as he actually was. He kind of took for granted, I guess you could say, that he(Moye) wasnt going to have the DB contesting the play

  • It was a great pass and a catch Moye makes 99.9% of the time. I really don't see why all the drama.

It's because the difference in stats is huge if Bolden does't get those two drops he has 63 more yards and 2 td's.... the stats wouldve read

    Bolden 8-12 100 yards 2 td's
    McGloin 6-8 77 yards

IMO those stats lead us to naming a starter for this week. . . thats what all the drama is about

You dont think that brown and Moye should have caught both of those balls? If those 2 balls are caught you don't think they are touchdowns? This isn't like somebody is saying oh if he got that first down we most likely would have scored.... they catch those balls we score, period... thats why these ifs matter

    3 for McGloin btw

  • 3 scoring drives to 1 my bad... and It was 3/4 for Mcgloin and 1/4 for Bolden though should be 3/4 with missed FGs

and plenty of things go into it BUT all that matters is the result not the excuses that everyone wants to make for the QBs

Bolden lacks that intangible and quality of a CFB player and simply has yet to have a WOW moment... When did anyone go wow he can be good? He looks the part but once the game counts he seems awkward and nervous.. I assume his Dad ran his life and without someone dominating him he cannot play...
