Just asked his mother about Roof and GT, she said he is a little upset with Roof about how he told him via text. He spoke with Roof a few days ago and Roof told him he would call him personally if he wouldn't be there. So the texting has rubbed him the wrong way, she went on to say that he loves PSU but wants to make sure he has made the right decision.

Sounds like this dude is pretty sensitive and/or looking for an excuse.

Here's a link to all recruits from 2007 to 2011 who decommited from their school. I did a random sampling of ten and eight were from the south. Randomly picked two more and they both were from the south. When I have more time I will look more closely. My gut tells me that there are a lot more southern kids who decommit than kids from elsewhere in the country (I have no evidence). Not sure why and not sure if I'm even correct on that. It just seems that way to me from what I've read.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/andy_staples/01/20/recruiting.commitment.chart/index.html

It happens everywhere, not sure why is has to be a South vs North thing.. Decommitting happens.and it isn't limited to just the south.. Also you must factor in that some kids who decommit as asked to by those schools they were committed to. Sometimes a kid commits somewhere and things happen like coaching changes, the new staff comes in as tells current commit, you are not what we look for in a player, coaches tell kids that I think it is best for us to both move on. Not all decommits are cause the kid is looking elsewhere...

Nope, not at all. I would suggest you not speculate what kind of person he is. He felt a little betrayed by Roof is all. That is human nature.

No one said it's limited to the south. It just seems like it happens more often with southern kids.

While the scenario you offer is certainly valid, my experience following recruiting tells me that the majority of decommits do so because they get a better offer.

In my opinion (and based on very limited knowledge and experience with recruiting) it seems like it's more acceptable for southern kids to use schools as placeholders while they continue to wait for a better offer. I recall that some of the insiders on this board have made comments along those lines as well.

    I appreciate the information.

It's just concerning when he says he loves PSU................BUT wants to see if he might love another place more. As long as he has a commit-able USCe offer, IMO he's gone, and probably was before Roof left.

No kidding. It's always cute to find a convenient out, but wanted to stay in the south and his WORDS stated that before Roof ever left. It's fine, but lets stop pretending like Roof staying was going to keep him. Anyone can talk a good game, but actions speak louder than words. He was visiting USCe regardless of Roof...so I wish the friend of the family would stop worrying about our perception or the kids image. He's not sticking around and many of us have been following recruiting a very long time. It's a part of the deal with recruiting and PSU has been on the good end in the past too.

I can love my job but if another place offers more money and a better chance to better myself you have to do what is best for you.

Roof leaving isn't why he is interested in USCe, there is legit interest but with Roof leaving this makes his visit that more important... If Roof was still at PSU then the visit wouldn't be as important.

Agreed it's a business decision, and that's fine.

My problem is don't say you love a place, but then consider going elsewhere. May be just the word she used, but if he truly loved PSU he wouldn't be looking.

Its like the old analogy - you don't love your wife if your gonna go bang 4 other chicks to be sure.

What is this placeholder stuff... Why do you guys assume these kids are using schools as a placeholder. Has this become a fact or is this just the opinion of it...

It is not acceptable cause it happens, that is another thing that is kind of funny to think it is acceptable. No one can tell this kids to stick to their commitment if they don't want to. Where is this notion coming from.

Lets try this one more time. He was visiting UCSe, but since Roof has left this visit has become more important. Not once did I say he wouldn't have visited USCe. And yes according to his mother who speaks to him daily said that if Roof stayed the chances of him not going anywhere else was extremely high.

You are using the love of a wife to the love of a place... when it is a business decision.

again I can love place Y but the best place for me to better myself might be at place X... doesn't mean I don't love place Y any less..

Kids use schools as placeholders all the time, and it smells rotten. Joe was always a major proponent of telling kids to take their visits and be certain, but BEFORE committing to him. This is the biggest reason I'm a Brady Hoke fan. He tells kids if you make a commitment to UM, your word is your bond. If you visit anywhere else, your scholarship offer is no longer valid. I love that.

I literally began the sentence with "In my opinion..."

Also...HUGELY naive on your part to think that kids don't commit to one school with an eye on a better offer that may come at a later date. Schools only have so many spots so take them while they're available and see what else comes along. Again, just my opinion.

Hoke says that, but doesn't necessarily follow that. Poggi is visiting Alabama soon and his offer hasn't been rescinded.

Verbatim from my preceding post that you were responding to:

This is literally the statement that you quoted when you asked if this was fact or my opinion. Clearly and unequivocally...my opinion.

I don't think coaches should hand cuff a kid like that when coaches come and go as well.. Will he tell them to stick to their commitment to Michigan if I leave. Probably not
