If they earn the right to take all five trips as you say, then don't make a decision after all five have been taken. How many trips has Walton taken since the PSU verbal? None? It didn't look like five trips were going to be taken since we are how many weeks from NLI day.

It's a known fact that the southern kids are more apt to do this than any part of the country. They don't know what a commitment is. They know what a placeholder is though.

Telling her to hit up Hawaii for the free trip tells me alot about you. It's disingenuous.

Don't assume what type of person I am. Taking all 5 visits while being committed is not a uncommon thing. Are you new to recruiting. And yes every single recruit has earned the right to take all 5 visits regardless of being committed or not. It is a known fact that kids from all regions do this. It isn't limited to the south. Have a blessed day sir

Never told him to look around, both of us actually told him to visit schools or places he might never see. I think you guys are taking this personal as if Walton has just shunned Penn St. Roof has been recruiting him for nearly 2 years. He was why PSU had the in with him. He told Auburn last week to go jump off a cliff for how they was treating him. He loves PSU but at the same time he is close to his mother and feels it might be better if he played closer to home. He has yet to say if he is going to flip to USCe or if USCe has given him a commitable offer.

Again this has zero to do with being in the south.

Don't be a fool ... he is going to flip to USCe. He may as well call PSU and tell them he isn't coming. Closer to home, in the league he craved for an offer ...

Kid verbals to PSU and you tell him to visit schools or places he might never see? That is telling someone to look around IMO. Again, very questionable for you to tell him to waste the time, effort and resources of other schools.

Noles, have you heard from Walton's camp about how many more LBs USCe is planning on taking in the class?
IIRC they already have 4 LB commits and Ngakoue and maybe another LB prospect are pretty high on them.

Yannick is in play with USCe but UMd mist likely gets him back. From what his mother tells me he hasn't talked about that issue as for how many LBs that might be brought in. All I am saying is USCe has caught his interest and losing Roof hurt. Things can easily be smoothed over with in home visits from the PSU staff.

  • Easy, guys. No need to get snippy about this. Noles is providing information. There's a lot of people (not just in the south) who have the mentality about taking official visits even if you're committed. Yes, those of us who follow recruiting know that a visit is rarely just a pleasure visit, but still.

No, I'm not new to recruiting. I do know what making a commitment is. You, on the other hand, don't. No, its not limited to the south - every region does it, but its a known fact that the highest percentage of flips come from the south. It's not rocket science. Maybe I should ask you if you are new to recruiting, because if you don't believe that - it tells me you are.

I hear ya. Thanks for the info.
Some may not be, but we greatly appreciate you taking the time to keep us all updated with info we wouldn't otherwise have.
Regardless of where he ends up I wish him the best - in Blue and White or otherwise.

It isn't telling him to look around. I have told his mother if it was me I would stick with PSU. Better education, better living and a chance to become his own man. You are assuming way too much about who I am and what I stand for. Right now I am not sure if UCSe would accept a commitment from him or if he would commit. As I have said USCe has caught his eye, and losing Roof hurt.

It isn't a waste of those schools are offering him to visit. I am sure not one PSU commit has ever wasted another schools time or money on visits. Again this is a common thing for majority of recruits across the nation

I appreciate all of the info your sharing with us. I understand where everyone is coming from, but if the kid is from the south and wants to play SEC ball and has an opportunity to do so then I can see his point as well. It's not uncommon for kids to decommit once a coach leaves, especially a coach that was instrumental in his recruitment. It's just something that we may have to get used to. I really hope the kid stays, Coach Vandy is one of the best in the biz at his position and I think Walton could become a beast under him. Again, it may not be what we want to hear but thanks for sharing.

Edit: I don't know why people are getting so defensive, this guy is providing us valuable information.

I have followed recruiting for nearly 15 years. Not new to it at all. I understand the ins and outs of it.

If you don't mind me asking of course. I kinda feel bad asking all these questions.

recruiting in the south is near pointless.....kids dont want to leave the south, the weather, and more specifically, the SEC. After all of these consecutive championships, who could blame them

Syracuse has at least 2 current verbals from Florida. I can check the rosters and committ lists to schools like Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, etc. and see plenty of FL/GA/TX kids on their rosters. Sure, these aren't the 5 star kids. but they are southern recruits nonetheless.

They asked him to take an unofficial this past weekend and he couldn't. Just didn't have the time nor money to. So they were not happy about it and expressed to him . He has pretty much written them off. Heck even FSU sent him mail but his mom threw it away.

So, Auburn isn't happy about a kid not being able to make an UNOFFICIAL visit, with no offer in hand, because he had other stuff going on or a lack of $$$ and expressed this to him? They need to get a life.

And for you to say that this is what kids in the South do is foolish. Kids from all areas of the country do the same thing. No need to make this into a north vs south thing.

Folks, welcome to recruiting in the south. The fact that this is standard practice to this guy and no big deal tells everything you need to know.

  • BTW Noles, don't take any of this personally. We're just not used to this sort of thing. Sure decommittments happen all the time, but for different reasons. Whether you like it or not, it's a south thing. Thanks for the info.

When did this whole kids decommit a south thing

I think Auburn felt this was their only chance at him. He kind of wrote them off last year when the backlash on Yeldon took place from their fans. He is close friends with TJ Yeldon.

Dude, everyone knows it here. Ironic that our guru did a story on Roof leaving and got comments from kids from the south and NOT from the north? There is a reason. Kids from the south aren't as true to their word as people from the other parts. Decommittments happen from every part of the country, but its is more prevalent in the south and has been for a decade or more. Go to the Blue Board and ask Shurbutt, Wiltfong or any national guy. They will tell you the same thing.

Could care less honestly. Is it morally wrong, sure but it is what it is. As soon as they actually punish those who do it then I might care a little more but it seems to me that it was only put in place to make some feel better.

I visit the big board as well... and there is not one ounce of evidence of what you say, it is of their opinion. Again I ask why does this turn into a South vs North deal.
