  • Wow - does he have a challenge on his hands with fielding some depth with the secondary unit. The problem is alot of our WR's would not make good DB's, Robinson, Matt Z, Kuntz...........I would think Kersey might have the tools but doubt he would be willing to change.

Will be very interesting this spring.

I think Kuntz could be a safety prospect...

    Kenney at DB? Golden? Davis?

Better hope for no injuries and wicked pass rush

  • Golden to CB is a formality at this point........He was purely told he could be a WR to reaffirm his commitment IMO

Golden probably has chance to play as freshman...sophomore latest as CB. Jr year for WR.

  • Here's to hoping that there's another Adrian Amos in the in-coming class.

He will, and should, play where he is best suited.

We have serious problems in the defensive backfield. No question about it. I actually like our projected starters, but there is just nothing behind them. Nothing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on Davis-- people who have seen him like what he brings to the table, and he was starting to really blow up before we poached him from WVU. Kiley actually has nice film, but he's not physically developed enough yet. Lucas is an unknown.

Really wish we would have gone the JUCO route and pulled in some DB's. And Derrick Thomas is a massive let down. What a waste.

  • Any chance PSU goes the JUCO route and brings someone in?

  • I don't see much of a pass rush coming this season unless they blitz a ton.. We haven't had an elite de since 08 when we had 2

I hate to continue bringing this up, but this is all on the old regime. How a program like PSU can all the sudden have depth like this in the secondary is beyond me. There were some kids that had interest that could have been on this roster, if not for turning them away (Knowshon Jarrett).

I hope Kenney stays on offense. After watching him all through high school he brings much more to the table on offense. He was a big-play maker in the Mid-Penn. Hoping he gets the chance to show it on the field.

That's my thought process as well. Lucas may be the most ready to play from day one, IMO. Also, I'd expect Golden to get switched over. Kenney too, perhaps. Although if he gets moved back again, I'd feel pretty bad for the kid.

i think golden switches as well, and well have jake kiley, as for kenney i thought he put on his transfer shoes and made the coaching staff switch him all over the place to try to keep him at penn state? or maybe i am thinking of someone else

  • Obviously the depth chart is a skeleton crew in the secondary, but I am excited to see what Fitzgerald does with these guys in S&C. Explosive athletes in the secondary is something we have lacked for quite a while, interesting to see if we get a more physically impressive group of DB's after some hard work in this Spring and Summer.

  • This issue has a trickle down effect on the whole team. The safeties will be in two deep coverage more than Roof would prefer, and that means our front 7 will have to stop the run. Thats certainly where the most talent on the teams resides, but its just too bad that Roof will have his hands tied calling the defense because he needs to help the corners.

Still should be a very solid defense imo though.

There is some young talent at defensive end so I have high hopes for a pass rush this year
