Joe's Statement from January.

  • I would disagree on joe only taking kids who have the grades. He only took kids who had the grades OR the desire to work hard for the grades. Did it work out 100% of the time? No but the % is in the high nineties.

Yep. He took some chances and sometimes the results were great. Sometimes it blew up on him. Just like anywhere else for the most part. Only 3-4 BCS conference schools don't take any or next to no academic projects...PSU took its share. The one thing Joe and PSU did do was ensure the support system was in place for those kids to succeed if they worked at it. DC comes to mind as a kid they took a flier on...worked out incredible for all parties.

Gus Felder I think is another good one - and the success was more off the field than on it.

  • Right on, Joe!

  • Just one note on this...and I don't mean it to sound negative.

    Nice work Jay.

There's no way Joe wrote this himself in the condition he was in. I'm not trying to be overly cynical because the principle of the letter remains the same regardless of who actually penned it. But...Jay deserves an unspoken assist for his quality work here.

When I read that, I immediately thought of Jay as well.

It's possible that he wrote it. It's also possible he just typed it up. Maybe it was a bit of both and just taking Joe's words down. I somehow doubt he did this last night though and it sounds an awful lot like what Joe was already stating when he was alive. It's not negative at all, it's just a guess.

I would assume the same. Jay and Joe sat together, Joe voiced his thoughts, and Jay eloquently phrased them. I don't think this was concocted last night either.

so how long until we can vote out every member who was on the board in nov 2011? can every bot member be voted out eventually, or are some "protected"?

There are 9 seats from alumni voting, 3 per year 9

The rest I think are as follows as best I remember, the gov, dept of ed, environ, ag, plus one or two other 6 (15)

Industry has certain spots as well Frazier - Merck CEO comes from one of these 8 (23)

Then the heads of the 7 ag societies in PA for total of 30.

Distribution may be off a little, but that is the basic make up. Alumns have say in a third, the gov and pa gov the rest !

I agree but no way in hell does anything happen to Corbett. He's prepping for a run at President here in a next few terms and nothing will get in his way of doing that, sadly.

As a Republican I can't stand Corbett. I pray to god that he does not become the GOP nominee in the future...

  • JMO, but just because Corbett is getting something of a pass right now for not following up with Sandusky - this is exactly the sort of thing that resurfaces during political runs, especially presidential ones.

  • Hahahaha...pretty ironic with the timing of the letter "written" by Joe. Do you honestly think he wrote that? Say goodbye to football. This is the beginning of the end.

You posted the same link in two different threads. News flash asshole, this letter was written months ago and everyone here is well aware that the NCAA plans on looking into this situation.
