I feel a deep loss, almost as if a member of my own family is gone. I hope it's not true but if it is I'm pulling for a recovery.

This is pretty difficult, because the Paterno family needs to handle things on their own terms, and to announce things when they wish to do so.
The rumors about JoePa being in bad shape (beyond just having lung cancer) are, unfortunately, accurate. His extended family has been summoned to be with him.

Joe Paterno is a coaching legend.I'm sure Buckeye Nation will agree he is a great one and we hope things turn out well for him.He did great things for college football and PSU!!!! Our thoughts and prayers are with him his family and for the Lion nation his extended family.

I am distraught over the news. My prayers are with the man and his family. I always envisioned in my mine JoePa as another grandfather. I followed him, read books about him, and listened to him about how one is to carry himself. Joe you will be always loved and respected by myself and many others who have loved the way you carried yourself no matter what the situation is.

It's difficult to think about JoePa no longer walking amongst us, but I take solace knowing that he truly will be going to a better place. So long as we on earth carry ourselves with the same ideals that he has during the course of his life, the future will always be bright. God Bless Joseph Vincent Paterno!
