Joe Paterno to retire at end of season (UPDATED)

  • "This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more."

Him saying that makes me not want to see him on the sidelines at the game. UGH!

I am, in no way, questioning your loyalty to your successful program, or implying that the fans should do anything more. But to be more excited about the premium price that the ticket is now worth, rather than to express sympathy for the victims just sounds wrong.

The poster has already expressed sympathy for the victims.

Is this kind of like "I wished we had played ____ more?" Because those don't sound sincere either.

    trolls

I am not a troll. I actually thought I was on the blue board. I clicked a link on govols247 on wound up here. Didn't pay enough attention. Please understand that to us in Knoxville, this is breaking news and not a resurgence of old news. It's very hard for us to comprehend. Don't mean to rub anyone the wrong way.

  • I have defended Joe Pa on the Vols board today, as I don't truly feel that he did anything wrong. He handled the complaints as any of us would in his position. He probably should have pushed the issue more, but we would all want to believe that our superiors would do the right things in that situation.
My statement about him coaching the last game was meant as a concern for how the media will play it out, or how it will be perceived by the rest of the country.
On the other hand, he is Penn State and as far as I know has always represented the university with class and dignity. He rightfully should have the opportunity to receive the proper show of appreciation for his contributions.

Now you're just putting words in his mouth...

  • Not trying to do that. Sorry if it came across that way. In Tennessee life is just very simple, You know the story....old trucks, hunting dogs, moonshine, and sad country songs. It just came across that way to me
