Joe Paterno releases a statement

  • sneakypete said...

But why did Joe NEVER go to the cops. Even after he learned TC was doing nothing/covering it up?

maybe he didn't believe him? I don't have all the answers, but at least I'm not pretending to.

  • It's not Joe's position to go to the police. My mom is a high school teacher. She told me today that if she saw something that was happening in her classroom or inside the school, she goes to the people at the top not the police. Joe did exactly what he was supposed to do. Stop blaming everything on Joe just because you don't want me here.

  • schools are different and are required by law as mandated reporters to tell someone. Joe is not a mandated reporter for an incident that allegedly happened by a former employee

Until I know he did something wrong I'm not joining the lynchmob, but regardless he is entwined in this because of the fact he's so attached to PSU and is their face. Which is why with him being the face and involved in this hearing, now wouldn't be the worst time for a new face imo. I'm pretty hung up on the GA not going to cops originally.

And I agree that the GA should have gone to the cops. But once he didn't and went to Joe instead, why don't you think Joe should have gone to the cops?

You don't think doing nothing after learning of the way TC was handling it is not doing something wrong?

So if your mom told the people at the top and they didn't go to the police she would just drop it and let it continue to happen?

Say what you want but joe is the top. Curley is just a pawn. Maybe your mom would be ok letting kids get molested if no action was taken but most people would not be ok with that.

Dumb. Grow up dude. Stop blaming Joe??? Boo hoo. We've all acknowledged that Joe did what was required of him. You might be the only one that thinks it's ok that he did nothing after realizing that his superiors weren't going to follow through on their end. Joe's a big boy. He made a BIG moral mistake. I'll blame him for not doing more with no hesitation. And I bet the victims and their families feel the same way.

If your mom saw the people at the top sweeping it under the rug or covering it up would she not go to the cops?Horseshit. My mom was an elementary school teacher for 30 years, taught 1st and 2nd grade and as a religious and moral woman you can bet your sweet ass my mom would have done more then what Joe did to protect her kids. Especially if she had the power and clout Joe had and especially if her superiors did nothing. But hey, keep making excuses, like someone else on here said, the chain of command excuse was thrown out when the Nazi's tried to use it.

Hopefully nothing happens to kids in your moms school cause I guess she would be fine telling her boss then doing nothing.

I'm not saying it is her job to. But morally she would be ok to let it continue if those who were supposed to did not?

It isn't, there just happens to be a few posters who have to spin everything until it is somehow Joe's fault.

No, there are a couple of people who think Joe did all he could do legally and morally.

Just as some will defend him (Joe) no matter what.

FInd me a poster saying that it is Joe's fault JS molested kids. Don't worry, I'll wait.

What you can find and should find are posters who believe Joe didn't do enough and everything he could/should have done.

Umm he did everything legally, if you want to argue morals go ahead. BUT if the GA was mistaken and Joe acted by this automatic code you believe in he'd be morally irresponsible in that manner(see Austin Scott). So if you don't see it with your own eyes how can you know for sure, and when the person claiming to have seen it with his own eyes didn't go to the cops it adds more doubt in my mind.

  • Nothing conflicting his sworn testimony? Seems that now his GA wasn't nearly as descriptive or sure about what he saw.

Wow dude really? You don't know me or my mom so just shut the hell up. You have no idea what your talking about. Your talking like an immature a**hole. She's a special education teacher and she works in an after school program to help children are in need and some may be abused. Way to make yourself look like a complete idiot.

If you're putting this on the same level as wanting to rebuild the offense then you need to check yourself.

I look forward to whatever happens after Joe is gone and wasn't against him leaving after this season. But if you're trying to use this to ruin an otherwise good man out of a job because you can't wait 3 more years then i don't know what to tell you.

HUH? I think you are the one who either needs to read between the lines of what I said (very obvious), or check yourself. Alot of blame to be thrown around on this. Everyone associated with this didn't do their respective jobs; should be embarrassed by their actions or inactions and should resign or get canned.

  • At the end of the day, Joe has to leave this program now. Even if we went 12-1 and won the Rose Bowl, he has to go. This thing will carry over the heads of the program for a few years now and him being here will keep it going more.

Haha you act as if the shower incident was too shocking an allegation against JS. As if it was impossible for Joe to believe that JS was capable of something so heinous. This was 2002, 4 years after the first incident. If the GA was mistaken????? If you don't see it with your own eyes??? Gimme a break. THIS IS NOT A SITUATION THAT YOU PUSSY FOOT AROUND WITH. THIS IS ONE THAT YOU TAKE TO THE PROPER AUTHORITIES IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEARNING THAT THE PEOPLE ABOVE YOU HAVE REFUSED TO DO SO. This is not rocket science.

I am amazed at how all these posters must have been there when these incidents have happened to know so much about everything that transpired. For me, I know better than to believe what I read in the papers and on the internet without really knowing all the details.
I will reserve judgement until all facts are known.

Joe is the one who puts his morals front and center. He is the one who represents himself and values a certain way. Calling the cops AFTER TC did nothing would not be anything immoral at all. Especially after Joe fired the guy for this SAME thing. This wasn't Sandusky's first rodeo like it was Scott's. Scott's situation also reached the correct people and wasn't covered up, unlike Sandusky.
