Translation: Bolden has the reins and can prove he deserves them. Encouraging thing there....
Saying we have our leader without putting the other guy down.
At least that is how I read/take it, so JMO
I'm glad you speak crazy, cause what I see is one sentence saying that Bolden is the guy followed by 7 or 8 sentences contradicting the first.
Confused where this article came from then if Joe said they will still split time??
Joe Paterno will still play both quarterbacks against Temple, but he expects Rob Bolden to see a majority of the time behind center.
blog.pennlive.comLet's look at adjusted 3rd down completion rate:
Bolden was 7 for 10 on 3rd AND 4th down conversions combined. The stats will tell you he converted 5 3rd downs and 1 4th down, but I am including his pass to Sczerba on 3rd and 10 which he coughed up at the first down marker. That would have been another conversion. Again give Bolden credit for what he could control. McGroin meanwhile was a big fat 0-fer. Are you friggin kidding me? And Joe still can't name an outright starter?
Also they seem to not be giving Bolden his fair shot. They committed to swapping the QB's every 2 drives. Well Bolden got the ball at the end of the 1st half with no time left. 2 plays, end of quarter. That constituted a drive in Joe's mind. So then Rob got his 2nd drive right after the half, but then they went right back back to McGroin later in the 3rd quarter. No flexibility or feel from this coaching staff on what was working or who was more effective. They were more concerned about getting both QBs in than in putting the better guy out on the field to compete and win the game.
I feel that Bolden will succeed if given the reins and the patience to make mistakes and learn from them. He showed grit and toughness and I will gladly live with a mistake here or there cause he can hit the long ball and guide this team better than the other guy. Joe has to go if he can't see this.
If he played Bolden all last year, it's possible that we could have gone bowl-less, maybe 5-7 or 6-6, BUT Bolden would have gotten so much more experience for this year and beyond and given PSU a much better leader at QB for the foreseeable future.
