  • We only practiced yesterday, we just went out on the tops, and I think overall we responded pretty good. I won't know until we try to do some more things this week. We're trying to talk to some of the kids to see what we've got to do to play with a little more confidence. I think we're doing all right.

  • Asked about Okoli -

We've only practiced one day, we really haven't talked about who is going to play. We spent this morning doing that and we'll go out this afternoon and see what we're ready to do. That's a tough question to answer now.

  • I think we've made a decision up to a point, that we want to play both of them for a while until we find which one might be better for the football team.

Right now I think it's a toss up, I think both have done well.

It's easy to pick out someone and blame them, but I think both quarterbacks have played well enough for us to win with. I'm reluctant to tell anyone that this guy is ready to start, because it would look like the other guy hadn't looked good.

When you get into that, you're going against a tough team, you're in an uphill battle all the time.

'We've got two quarterbacks as we talk now, whether we have two quarterbacks a week from now, we'll see.'

  • The confusion on the sideline goes back to the fact that you think that kids understand certain things. Two kids got hurt, they didn't know to go down or what. We've got to do a better job of making the kids more game aware. When you're hurt, stay down until we can get a substitution for you. We had guys on the sideline not sure of what is going on, and we ran out of town.

There again, that's an obvious thing. I'm angry upstairs, I didn't know what had happened, either. I was yelling at them telling them they need to make up their mind what they want to do. I think we're all right that way, I don't think that will be a problem.

We've got to catch the ball, we've got to make some plays on defense. Why we haven't done it? Obviously we have to take a look at ourselves and go from there. We were almost last in the country last year in the turnover ratio and we're allowing too many on the other side.

  • We've had two kickoff returns for long ones, Powell has had two, one a year ago and one this year. Ordinarily we would do a little better job blocking up front. The other guy kicked the ball where they wanted it. The coverage was designed to get to that spot and I thought they hustled and made us miss a couple of blocks upfield. Having said that, we have to do a better job.

Bwahhahah he thinks 5 picks in a bowl game and 1-10 for no yards against Alabama is "doing well"

I wish I lived in the land of make believe too.

  • The defense played well, most of the time. We didn't come up with a couple interceptions. I didn't like how we played on the last touchdown, they looked a little discouraged. I thought the down guys played fairly well, better than fairly well. They have a couple of fine running backs. Most of those yards came at the end there.

We had a chance for an interception, we didn't come up with the ball. They took it in. Things like that we have to get better. We've got to change the game around on defense once in a while.

I didn't like punting the ball on 4th and 6 down several scores in the 4th quarter...it looked like you were a bit discouraged Joe

  • I'm not a guy that backs away from taking criticism of my coaching, I'm more than willing to saying that I didn't do a good job on Saturday. I wouldn't say that for our staff on Saturday. You get into a mental attitude, 'here we go again.' It gets to be a self-defeating situation. There's a lot of little things and the challenge ahead of us as coaches is that we have to somehow get over that attitude and we have to go out there and make some things happen for themselves. Right now we don't seem to have that sense.

Couldn't agree more! Gotta force turnovers on defense. Unfortunately, it's kinda hard to do that with how our scheme is. We aren't aggressive and don't force the opposition to make quick decisions therefore inducing turnovers.

This is a quintessential point on why its time. If he truly believes from the second graph down, he really is delusional.

The QBs didn't play well enough for PSU to beat Bama. NO WAY.

  • I did not talk to Al Golden before he took the job down at Miami, and to be frank with you I was surprised he took it because he was doing a good job at Temple. This Temple team is the best Temple team I've ever seen. They've got size, speed and excellent quarterbacking. I think Al left that situation in good shape. Whether it was a good move to go to Miami with all of the fuss going on, I think you would have to talk to Al about that. He's a bright young man who certainly did a great job for us when he was on our staff.

  • Asked about underestimating Temple based on their history-

I don't think we're in a position to be anything but running scared ourselves. We haven't done anything. We weren't a great team last year. We have to take a look at ourselves and say, 'hey, we've got to be ready to go.'

  • Devon Still played an outstanding game on Saturday. He was elected captain by his teammates, and in his own quiet way, he's a guy that leads by performance. He's one of the guys that right now is going to have to come to the front and pick up a couple of guys who have not have the success that he's had. He's got to start to pick some of them up, and I think he will. He's a good football player and a good team player, and that's a combination that we need.

Joe is probably the only person that would say they were surprised he took the Miami job out of Temple. Temple is a stepping stone job, if you survive.

  • I think this week the QB rotation will be mostly as the game goes on. We went into Alabama with the idea that we would go a couple series then let Mac go a couple of series. I may second guess myself, because Bolden threw the ball really well early. I intend to play both of them.

Translation: Bolden has the reins and can prove he deserves them. Encouraging thing there....

Saying we have our leader without putting the other guy down.

At least that is how I read/take it, so JMO

Edit: and then he says "I think this week the QB rotation will be mostly as the game goes on.
