  • Any chance he has the speed / cover skills to play safety? Just doesn't looks strong enough to me for LB. Speed seems up to par potentially in the secondary.

Because HS stats don't mean much and because other guys grade out better. He has narrow shoulders, stiffer hips, and doesn't cover the ground that others do in film. However, he is a highly skilled player when rushing the passer, very good at that actually and one of the better LBs this year that I've seen do it. He is also extremely effective playing forward, as shown by his offensive and defensive play. And has the overall athleticism (very high level) to hopefully evolve into a consistent force at the high D1 level.

Why is he lower than Brown? Well I can guess a couple reasons: 1) Brown is asked to do much more in his film. You see him jam and shuck OL and TEs while sealing the edge (something you don't see Zayd do a ton of), you see him split out in coverage on a WR, and you see him blitz (though Zayd is better at this). 2) Frame. Buddyy has tested well in camps, and has a giant frame to build on. So much in fact some analysts have noted he could possibly grow into a DE. Zayd its been noted has a much narrower frame (built like a WR right now imo) and it was noted a little over a week ago by JC (maybe?) That he may never grow all the way into it. Personally I think Zayd is ranked correctly all things considered, and Brown is a little overrated right now. They are pretty even as prospects imo and will end up at BCS schools, with Penn State both being the best school after them, by far.

I'm sure I will now get bombarded with

The evaluation you give on Brown sounds a lot like Wartman - basically played all over the Valley View defense. Big frame, athletic kid, can play inside of out. Was asked to cover WR's and Y TE's in space. Played with more of a 3-3-5 type hybrid S/OLB mentality under Howanitz.

Yeah except Wartman was flat out explosive and vastly underrated IMO.

Agreed. That's my main problem with Brown... A lack of pop and explosion on film... Wartman on the other hand is straight dynomite! Like JJ from Good Times

Howanitz, who I played against in HS, is doing a heck of a job with that VV team. And Yes, Wartman is Dynamite. According to Vandy(heard this second hand, not from the horses mouth), he has an NFL ready collegiate body right now. I know he's been working with a PT since football ended last fall, and I heard he has put about 10lbs of muscke on, and maintained his 4.5 speed.

I definitly think so. IMO, he was one of the best recruits we picked up in the 2012 class. He's a good kid, and a very hard worker too. He'll be one of those guys who really excells under Fitz. He could easily play in the mid 240's.

Wasn't he the recruit that was really opposed to the idea of red shirting and was in a sense calling out the offensive guys with the old staff?
