Is it time to move Amos to safety

  • The secondary is the obvious weak link on the defense. I don't think the corner play has been that bad. The tackling has been very solid out of the corners and I'd argue Amos is one of the best tacklers on the team. I so much rather see Morris/Davis/Amos/Willis than Fagnano back there.

  • um no, although amos is better fit for safety, the more immediate team need is at cb. I'm very high on davis, but the team has to hide potential weaknesses by playing him too far off the receiver. Whereas, Amos is able to play in the face of the receiver. Willis has been ok at safety and Obeng looked a lot better and more active versus virginia. I would be more incline having davis as a rotational db, then starting him at cb right now.

I disagree here. Get Quan on the field now, let him learn and go from there. We need out best athletes on the field.

That's my first option - my next option is get Lucas or Kiley back there.

    Fagnano cannot start anymore IMHO.

    Agree 100% with this

  • Fagnano hasn't started. Its been Willis and SOA.

And this week is not the week to take Amos and put him back at Safety. I want him at CB this week as one ofreally the force men for this triple option.

  • Our safeties have been problems more-so than our CB's, IMO. I personally like how Davis has been playing.

  • What is going on with Ryan Keiser that he is not playing safety? Didn't he play some last year and show some promise?

Injured, and someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe (not 100%) that he's out all year.

    MTayl72

  • Not out all year. He's been on ST coverage and the holder. I'm sure we'll be seeing him at safety sooner than later.

  • You don't move Amos to safety the week before the Navy game when tackling is at a premium for a CB.
But I would much rather increase Da'Quan Davis' reps while making sure Fagnano never sees the field.
And since we don't ever put more than 2 CBs on the field at once, moving Amos to FS after the Navy game would accomplish just that.
That said, I doubt it happens.

  • I'd love to see Amos at safety. I think that's his natural position anyway. I think once Stephon is 100%, he will be starting at corner with Davis. So it will be Morris, Willis, Amos, and Davis.

  • Speaking of Navy, any chance we see a 4-4? May not be workable, but I'd love to see Mauti - Carson - Hull - Hodges out there.

  • Next year. We need one more early enrollee at CB and we'll be able to move Amos. We will be young at CB in 2013, but Amos and Willis could be a very nice safety tandem.

    Just can't happen this year.

Would love to see it with Amos, Morris, and Willis. Could be very effective.

I almost expect to see it on some first and second downs until the try beating us over the top. This Navy QB and offense is a little more open that past years so they may try. But a 44 with those guys would look good. Add in Nyeem if we want 2 ILB and keep speed.

  • I just don't see what you all see in Davis. He isn't ready yet. He may become a good CB but he isn't ready to be out there full time yet. Some reps, OK, but he'll get exposed if you know he's out there. Do you guys really think that the coaches don't play him because of any other reason other than "he's not ready".

The fact that he gets reps speaks to his ability (in a thin group), so I am not putting the kid down. Just saying to be patient.

I don't think its what they see in Davis, more of what they don't see in Fagnano.

Exactly. I rather take the mistakes Davis will make now with his ceiling, than deal with the same mistakes from Fagnano with his more limited ceiling/time left.

I think Amos is a better fit at Safety, but having said that who takes his spot at CB?

  • I think Amos takes better angles than any safety we have on the roster. I think Amos would cover tight ends better and also roam the field to clean up any mistakes that Davis makes. Can you imagine the alligator arms the Big Ten receivers would develop with them hearing Amos' footsteps across the middle? Amos would have blown that TE up on that pass interference play.

    bigsuge71

  • Safeties need to play more opportunistic. Sophomore year Scirrotto would have 2 picks already in my opinion. They need to react faster to the tight end in the middle of the field.

  • Short answer is yes!

  • I think with the way that Fagnano and SOA have played the past 2 weeks...yes they should move him. I'm not sure how good Amos is on man to man coverage at corner anyways. I think he would be better off playing safety and coming up to help in run support.

    beaglespackers

  • Not this week, but you all know how much I want Fagnano to be on Special Teams and not much else... His ball skills are horrible. But you don't need many ball skills against the triple option... This week isn't the week. Temple on the other hand... Maybe by then, Davis will be ready for an increased workload...

I think he needs to move to safety, if for no other reason, It would get Fagnano off the field. He is a major liability out there. Amos hits hard too. he has made some really nice tackles this year.
