Kid is a two time defending national champ and wrestling is an emotional sport. Probably the most emotional sport in regards to sacrifice and dedication to get to where hes been, and hes had a rough year for his standards. I get it, it's a crappy move, but the kid deserves some slack. We've already blasted him in two other threads, he was probably acting out of frustration and overcome with emotion.

I agree. Its not like he was a poor sport during the medal ceremony or anything, he made a personal decision while he was by himself to chuck the medal, because he doesn't accept 2nd place. I like it as long as he was respectful to the winner during the medal ceremony.

I thought I read that he just left during the ceremony and left the 1st and 3rd place winners there.

He did have humility, he congratulated Delgado and his family in the stands. He gave credit to Delgado being the better wrestler when asked if he was wrestling poorly due to an undisclosed injury, and was stalked by a student reporter who found the medal in the trash after he threw it away discretely. This was all blown out of proportion because of a student reporter going too far to create a buzz over nothing.

I can't get it to link, but there are pics of him standing on the podium for the three second medal award ceremony with Nico and Delgado. Then both of them left the podium so delgado could get his solo shot.

I'm okay with that. Unless you coach kids or were in their position in the past, I guess it's harder to understand their position and mindset after a big tournament, especially their senior year. It's a lot easier to trash a kid and criticize his actions instead of giving him grace for not being at his best after one of the most difficult and emotional moments of his life.

2. If he wants to throw a tantrum like a child, that's fine and completely understandable, but he should do it behind closed doors rather than trying to take the spotlight off Delgado and steal his moment that he earned.
