Iowa timing their entrance

  • I know some people had brought this up. FWIW, here's a video showing it. I guess they really dislike being booed.

    Penn State 10.8.11

This video was uploaded from an Android phone.

  • Plenty of teams get caught up in silly gamesmanship....unfortunately it doesn't put points on the board.

  • I've seen many teams time their entrance right around when we are making ours. It is what it is. Every team is different.

  • All that stuff is pre-scheduled... whether they diverted from that plan I don't know, but everything in pregame is timed as part of the 'show.'

  • Does it really matter when they enter the field?

    Hamilton Lion

  • To me, it's cheap showmanship. NO REASON to run all the way to midfield THEN make a sharp 90 degree turn. BUT, I've seen plenty of other teams due similar antics.

  • I'm glad they did it--I wish more teams would. I guess I'm just "old-school" (or maybe just old!) but I don't like to hear the boos for visiting teams. 18-21 year old kids don't deserve to be booed. I can tell you this, when I was in college sports, any negative reaction from the fans when we were away just pumped me up more.

Is it the greatest show in college football? *Lions Roar*

On a sidenote, what's up with Microphone guy. Is he part of the 'show'? I dislike him....

I was going to make a thread asking about this... Does anyone actually like the cheerleader guy with the microphone before and during the game?

I really can't stand it, and I've hated it since they started doing it. It's awkward and almost embarassing, particularly the "BEAT IOWA" chant he started late in the 4th quarter. Maybe I'm just more annoyed by it than the average fan, but found it to be very class-less.

Does this guy actually resonate with anyone? Would it be worth my time to email Guido and register a complaint about it?

  • This, like pink visitor locker rooms are remnants from Hayden Fry days.

Since you brought it up, the most aggravating thing about the Iowa visitor locker room is the fact that they installed the urinals about a foot higher than normal. Talk about feeling inadequate...................

Couldn't agree more. They need to get rid of that. The worst was the Bama game.... Beat Bama, Beat Bama, Beat Bama.... just awful.

The people that sit behind me and (insert whomever I take to the game with me) mentioned at the Alabama game how much they disliked the microphone guy. I said, "I thought I was the only one" to which they laughed.

It would appear that very few, if any, people care for the "are you ready to ROCK AND ROLL".....

I'm not a hateful person, I just can't for the life of me figure out why they bring this guy out. So much of it is nonsense at this point. Wish we could go back to the '03/'04 old PSU football story video. The , "we play for those that came before us" and then just update it a bit with some M.Rob/Poz/Clark/etc.

The constant playing of Journey get's a bit stale too. But I'm not an information director or sports director or media guy. I'm just a fanatic with opinions that are meaningless....so I'm fully aware that I won't see the changes I want i.e more blue band

I agree, but Mic guy has been around forever...at least back to mid 90's. He pre-dates all of this "greatest show" nonsense.

  • Less we forget, we, a.k.a. Joe have not been immune to gamesmanship. Look back at the story of the '86 national championship and the locker room choice and how that got into Miami/Johnson's head.

While gamesmanship doesn't explicitly put points on the board, it can cause undisciplined teams to lose focus which can result indirectly in points (or the lack there of)

  • Yeah the timing of Penn State coming out on the field seemed a little delayed - and the second Iowa emerged from the tunnel (well before Penn State came out) they were booed - but they waited there atleast 30 seconds until Penn State came down the tunnel and ran out at the same time.

If they think that gives them an edge more power to them.

  • Many teams have done similar things. Albeit maybe not the running the whole way to the 50 but they must have decided they needed to let us know they weren't going to back down. It's actually a lot classier than what you see in the SEC alot where the visitors stand at the 50 shaking their heads and trash talk .

The Mic guy is a joke. Trust me Beaver Stadium could set the world record for collective eye rolls as soon as he opens his mouth.

It looked normal to me. I mean, we're talking about which part of the field a team walked on. It's not like they ran after players and mooned everyone.
