Interesting read on Meyer and Florida

For anyone questioning Paterno's judgement in his public Urban love-fest prior to the Outback Bowl, I wouldn't read too much into that. Joe barely knew Urban prior to that game. What's he supposed to say about the opposing coach that's won two national championships in the past four years? Call the guy a slimeball? Have we ever known Joe to give the other team bulletin board material like that prior to the game?

I think Joe was just playing along with the media lovefest for Urban in his last game. No need to kick the guy on his way out the door. But I'll conceed that Joe probably layed it on a little thick in return when Meyer said nice things about him.

For the most part I agree with you, but if we are to believe the posts stating that Joe had Urbz as one of his successor candidates then Joe was doing more than platitudes at the outback bowl.

Yeah, I forgot about those rumors. That stuff tends to go in one ear and out the other with me. I don't put too much stock into message board rumors. Maybe it was true, but I think there was a lot of wishful thinking by PSU fans going on there.

  • I hope he doesn't bring this junk to The B1G. I don't imagine a recruit like Spence will stay if that happens @ OSU. of course the more important thing is that The Lions do things rightly and it seems that our staff is already setting that precedence.

I'm pretty sure Joe's oppinion of UM was influeance by Jay on the football side of things. On the personal side Sue and UM's wife were very friendly. They had that catholic thing going

You mean like Tim Tebow staying even though all this was going on with him as the captain and star of the team?

Who says that? Extreme statements like that just come off as the speaker trying to convince themselves.

  • I never thought that I'd say that I'd take BOB over Meyer, but I thank God that it happened that way... Dodged a bullet there with this guy... BOB is going to surprise some people...

I don't know how you read that article, and then sign on with that team.

If you are a kid who thinks he's the next coming of insert supestar name here. They may like a situation where you do whatever you want when you want and have no consequences

  • Sounds like Meyer is a perfect fit for those delusional buckeye fans.. As long as he wins, he could do no wrong.. Very tressel-esque

  • Don't forget that Meyer does not have the 2 assistants that made that team click in Strong and Mullen. I really don't think he will be too successful on the field and certainly not off of it.

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

I've never really bought the Urban Meyer "coaching genius" hype. He's a good recruiter, but something is clearly wrong with his system. To go from a team that wins two national championships in three years to just winning six or seven games a year tells me he can't sustain a consistent winner. They had the makings of a dynasty in Florida, and Urban Meyer blew it. Then he headed for the hills when he realized the aura he built around his "coaching genius" reputation was about to be destroyed.

Please don't forget his first championship was with a bunch of kids he did not recruit!
