  • Right now, the two hotspots for talent in our region are NJ and MD. We are going really well in NJ this year (Webb, Sickles, Mahon and we could have Brown and Drennon if we want them). As for MD, LJ is a great recruiter in that area, and now we have added the strength coach for Dematha. Taking those things into consideration, it looks like BOB understands where we need to recruit.

As for PA, let's wait and see what happens with Williams, Foster and Johnson. I doubt Foster will come here, but you gotta feel good about Williams and at least hopeful with Johnson. What's important is re-building relationships in PA that were damaged by the last group of coaches (and there were lots of that going on). In that respect, losing a guy like AA means little because Wyomissing sure as hell isn't going to be sending kids to D1 on a regular basis. We need to rebuild our image in the Harrisburg area, IMO. Pitt has owned that region for the last few years, and they always produce good talent.

    McG isn't going elsewhere.

Maybe, maybe not. I maintain my view that ND is one of the most susceptible "big" programs to kids flipping this year, given what your record will probably be.

You never know with these kids. Denman seemed solid, then up and visited a Wisconsin game and committed there shortly after. You can be sure PSU isn't giving up on McGlinchey, especially since he never even got to visit our campus.

I'm not overly concerned with locking down our home state. It's likely never going to happen in today's day and age. If we can land most of the top talent in the state on a yearly basis and open up new avenues to other regions/states, I will be ecstatic.

Ohio State doesn't even lock down their own state. Michigan took half the top talent from Ohio.

Tressel did. Meyer clearly has a different strategy, ignoring some of the in state kids to get offers to more national kids. Out of the Ohio kids committed elsewhere this year I believe only one of them (possibly 2) had a commitable offer.

  • I can't believe this staff in 4 months has not locked down the entire state of Pa. Hopefully Joyner has seen this and will act soon. sarcasm

  • I think it is too early to grade. Right now all BOB can do is sell what he hopes to do, in 2-3 years hopefully he can sell what he has done on the field. If he turns this offense into what we all hope it can become and the defense does what is usually does, then the recruits will come.

it's simply unreasonable to expect to land every prospect we offer in-state...With that said, and with our need at LB and OT, I think it's unacceptable to lose AA to a conference foe, and it will be unacceptable to lose both Glinch and Johnson. If staff lands Johnson, I will say no harm done with losing Glinch. Maybe not in this first year, but in years to come we need to land the players like Rob Foster. I will echo what others are saying above...our keys to success in recruiting imo: ~ 6 of PA top 10-12 ~ 3 of NJ top 10 ~ 2 of MD/DC top 10 ~ 2 of VA top 10 ~ 2 of OH top 20 ~ 2-3 national ~ filtered in with lower rated recruits the staff likes.

class outlined above will surely land us in top 15 categories more often than not and usually higher than that.

I say 1 of the 3 or 4 best prospects from DC

  • Rebuild the WPIAL, pretty hot talent pool in which we have very little relations and have had no success there for the past 5 years.

So he sticks even when BK gets canned?

BK is safe this year no matter how bad our record is. This is our AD's guy and he's not going to fire him after 3 years, it's been done to much and sets a program back years.

  • While New Jersey has been coming on in recent years. That is mostly due to there population climb, they are the most densely populated state in America. Pennsylvania has declined but is on the way back. I'm excited that were going into jersey for talent and getting the kids to commit. With that said though I still don't think New Jersey has better talent than Pennsylvania. They have closed the gap, but I still think Pennsylvania talent is better. JMO

Exactly. That's why I'd be completely ecstatic if we can get most of the top talent in PA while tapping into other states and creating new pipelines in different regions.

And by soon I'm sure you mean drawn out over the course of many months or years.

ahh i didn't see ND got another OT.

So what exactly is the point of taking 5 OT's in one class? I have to assume at least one is not going to be an OT. Kelly cant be that dumb.

McG knew what was up, he's excited about the other 4 guys. Follow him on twitter. Montelus projects as a guard for us and wouldn't be surprised to see Elmer or McGovern move inside as well.

Good point about our record and flipping. Will be interesting to see how that plays out. McG isn't the one we're worried about at this time. What's up with Williams talking about using all 5 official visits?

Not buying he knew about Montelus. He was told there was one spot left on the OL when he made his pledge. That was longer than a month ago before Montelus.

  • Way too early to tell. This year is the first year of recruiting for these coaches and they still haven't played a game yet. You can't develop relationships that fast...it takes time. That said, I think the emphasis they've placed on this is very high. We should know a lot more in the next year or 2.

Not Montelus specifically. He was informed of what was going on. Was told we were likely taking 4, but might add a guy that could play inside. Guess we'll have to wait and see how upset he really is.lol
