I agree. I think every coach wants a mobile QB who can scramble out of the pocket and get a first down. or can read a blitz and man coverage and run free down the field if it is open. The difference is the planned QB run.
The simple read option that is a shotgun play where the qb reads the DE, gives if the DE is deep, keeps if the DE is coming down the line hard.
That read is a little more complex than most folks think. If there is another overhang player beside the DE , he may be the read. IE if the DE comes down hard to stop the back in the hole,the QB could be in the cross hairs of a hard coming OLB or Safety.
My point isn't to say it is a bad idea to run a QB, but it is a balance of skill,knowledge,experience and depth at the position.
I don't think PSU has the depth or experience to make the QB option a "regular" part of the offense....maybe I'm wrong. It is OBie's team he knows much more about it than I do.
