If Pats win Super Bowl, will O'Brien ever coach a PSU game?

  • Let's play the "if" game....

    1) BOB and his agent seem to have made it clear that his true goal is to coach an NFL team
    2) BOB is walking into a firestorm at PSU with many alums, lettermen, etc. not happy to see him
    3) About the only way this hire starts to look better is if the Patriots win the Super Bowl based on their offensive prowess
    4) If the Patriots win the Super Bowl, NFL teams may come calling

So if the Patriots win the Super Bowl will BOB ever actually coach a game at PSU? Or will he end up somewhere else altogether, devastating the PSU football program even further?

  • This was one of the first things I thought of. I kinda feel BOB is playing us. It really hurts that NFL and NCAA coaching timelines don't mesh. An NFL team can wait until February to hire a coach. NCAA teams cannot. If he bails or this falls through... oh boy. Good luck finding a HC then.

  • I don't think it's an issue. He has a better chance of being successful at PSU than the NFL. He is young enough to give the NFL a shot down the road if he chooses.

  • Can someone link this article where he says he wants an NFL job?

From his agent. I personally don't think it means a whole lot.

  • I hope you're right but it could really be a "double edged sword" if the Pats go on a long playoff run. Great publicity for O'Brien/PSU but means he can't focus on actually recruiting and if they do really well other NFL teams may be offering him a position come February.

Don't see this happening. He wouldn't go through all of this if he had second thoughts about the job in my opinion.
