If PSU was able to attend a bowl....

  • What bowl would they have been in with the 8-4 (6-2) record?

    CharlestonLion

  • Just for reference, in your scenario would you include OSU as a bowl team as well?

  • I was wandering that myself . Maybe the Buffalo Wild Wings bowl or meineke car care of Texas .

    okdklbu

  • Guess it probably wouldn't change much now that I'm thinking about it. Likely Outback, maybe Gator.

  • I would not include OSU since their bowl ban was coming for a while and ours were sprung upon us for non-football issues.

    Lots of hypothetical here:
    - If we were bowl eligible, PSU finished ahead of Wisconsin. So PSU is in the Big Ten title game.

    - If they had beat Nebraska, Rose, Obviously.

So lets assume Nebraska won because it is more interesting hypothetically:
    - Nebraska = Rose

    The Capital One chooses between:
    8-4 Michigan
    9-3 Northwestern
    8-5 Penn State

Capital One would take Michigan. They aren't radioactive and fewer losses. Yes, it is the same fate as Georgia getting penalized fo rthe championship loss.

Outback would have a really tough choice between:
    9-3 Northwestern
    8-5 Penn State

Northwestern - Better record. PSU travels better and won head to head. We don't have the bowl ban stigma either...

    So
    Outback takes PSU.
Gator takes Northwestern. But those two are interchangeable.

Wouldn't really matter much. OSU would have the BCS bid if eligible and Wisconsin finished lower in the league than Penn State. They would probably be in the BWW Bowl.

  • Sean how does the B1G Bowl selection work with tiebreakers. If both second place teams in each division have 1 loss who is the 3rd place team? And what if the Division Champ in one division (championship loser) has two regular season losses and the runner up in the other has 1. Who is technically second place. Figure I could google it but someone on here has to know right??? Like this year without sanctions say OSU beats NEB. OSU is 1, Neb is 2, but who is third PSU or MICH?

  • Let me clarify I know alot of bowl can choose who they want like the scenario above for who would go to the Cap1 bowl. But is there technically a third place team, not just the one the bowls chose?

Not Sean but I look at the slots as reflecting the bowls' choice, not the final standings. So, the Capital One Bowl gets to choose whoever they want after the Rose Bowl.

  • Bowl has the choice I believe. Outback took Michigan over Northwestern even though NW had the better record. The committee cited Michigan's win over NW as a reason why (though I'm sure Michigan's fanbase vs. Northwestern didn't hurt)

OSU went to the Urban Meyer Bowl last year with a 6-6 record.

So there is no "technical" finishing order, just what the Bowls choose. Gotchya.

  • We woul have played South Caro or UGA and it would have been very entertaining

There are some requirements in place. Most have a requirement that you must take the team with more wins if there is a 2 game or more differential. So if N'Western had won 10 and Michigan 8 thought couldn't have bypassed N'Western for Michigan.

  • We'd be in the rose bowl

If winning was easy even losers would do it.
