I just joined 247. Need a little help

  • What is the best way to read the messge board? I an on BWI and used thread view. So, I would just scroll through the threads and read the replies in the thread that interested me. I always read a reply by a staff member and some of the board regulars.

So, I guess I am asking what is the best way to read the messages here and not miss a reply that is worthwhile.

    Thanks.

Well, it's not a system that I've worked with much, but you can follow certain people. After following certain people (click the checkmark and + symbol to the right of the "VIP" logo), then turn on the option in the upper right corner of the board to look at "Users I'm Following."

Other than that, it's pretty easy to read the threads here and pick out users you like or don't like. I've never participated in a thread-view forum, so I'm used to seeing topics started, then just read each new post as it comes along. If you click on the green envelope to the left of each topic, it will take you to the newest post you haven't seen.

  • Those are good tips.

In addition, if you click on a person's username, it will take you to all the threads they have posted in. So, if you never want to miss something Fitz has said, you can click on his name and it will show you all the threads he's posted in and the green envelopes are there as well - so it will take you to the last unread post and you won't have to sort through the entire things.

Also, if you have questions you can send private messages to people, too. Just click on the envelope in their avatar and you can send a message just to that person. This helps with questions for Sean or Pat or me, too.

Hope this helps. I think once you surf around and check things out for a day or two it will become old hat for ya. I know anything new sometimes brings challenges, but about 99.5% of our users have said that our boards and their functionality are superior to their previous site once they give it a chance.

BTW, we're very proud of our mobile site, too. If you have a smartphone or iPad or something of that ilk please check out Lions247 on mobile.

    Thanks again.

What exactly does following a poster do? Does it bring up that posters newest posts when you log in?

Try to fathom the hypocrisy of a Government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured .but not prove they're a citizen

No...as far as I can tell the only use so far is when you click on "Users I'm following." Then for each topic it will ONLY show posts from users you're following.

Like I said, I haven't played with it much and they may have more uses planned for "following posts." But I started following a couple guys and nothing's changed for me so far.
