How many years will BO'B REALISTICALLY stay?

    Either way, he is asking a legit question. Will he stay, is he loyal, etc.

    Who's to say that BO'B has ANY interest in a career as an NFL coach, HC or otherwise (previous stint at NE notwithstanding)?

    Based on BO'B's recent behavior, I must state that his behavior is that of one who is ultimately committed to the betterment of his current charges (the Penn State Nittany Lions).

    We've looked at the obvious parallels between BO'B and JoePa. Both excelled as student/athletes at Brown Univ. Both have eschewed the norms or status quo to succeed at a higher level. Both believe in succeeding with "honor" and both I believe hold the "Grand Experiment" in high regard.

    The differences: BO'B has already coached for the Patriots (albeit as Asst. coach). Joe turned down a near million-dollar/yr contract in 1972 ('71?) to coach the "kids" (at Penn State). For Joe, it was more the principle rather than the $$$.

    After the past 48 hours, I'd say BO'B gravitated really more to the mold of JoePa than NFL Coach dujour.

    Bellichick is 60. If he continues to be successful he's got at least 10 more years at the helm in NE. Remember Marv Levy coached the Bills until he was 72!

    Consider that JoePa had only been PSU's HC for 5-6 years before the Patriots came knocking. He hedged, then he accepted the offer, but at the end of the day he refuted the offer to stay at Penn State.

    I read alot on here that BO'Bs "heart" is in the NFL. And this is why he won't be at PSU for the long term. I see no evidence to this common "assumption". In fact I beg to differ. I believe that BO'Bs "heart" is with his family; wife & children first. PSU is a special place as JoePa learned (and BO'B will too, eventually). I think that BO'B is here as long as he wants to be. Devil and $$$ be-damned.

    Lol maybe if you read both posts you would realize I was just making good conversation. I never said anything negative. Funny how just because I didn't write "Bill O'Brien will stay forever and win 10 national championships!!!" you and 13 other idiots think I'm a "troll" and give me/the post a negative review. Sorry for having a different opinion than you.

    And as to your comment about Monday. I asked this question because clearly Monday is a news conference for damage control. Of course he will say all the right things about how he is here for the long haul. I was just asking what the other RATIONAL fans were thinking about his short/long term coaching potential.

  • Ultimately it is up to his wife!!! If she wants to stay in HV so will BOB. The outstanding medical facilities for their son leads me to believe she isn't going anywhere!! He has job security and a nice paycheck. As long as he stays hungry he will have a job here. Has anyone thought about what happens if he has 6 or 7 losing seasons in a row? Everyone is enamored with him but what if we suck for years?

    ...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

    His contract now guarantees a lot of money, at what points does he throw several million out the window to chase an nfl dream that would probably only last a few years. I'm not saying BOB sucks, just that there are very few coaches who stick it out longer than three years in one place.

    If he is happy and the wife an kids are happy he will stay here. He is clearly the guy we need for the next few years. In theory, post sanctions, we should be a better landing place for a top coach should he decide to leave. It's imparative that we keep him until the sanctions are over.

    As fans we need to be more reasonable with our expectations over the next few years. No yelling BOB sucks if we go .500 or worse. He is the guy and our guy.

    If winning was easy even losers would do it.

    Outstanding medical facilities? Most NFL cities will have much better hospitals for rare conditions than State College. Boston, in particular, has one of the best pediatric hospitals (if not the best) in the world.

  • OB stated when it was announced he was staying that he is committed to the 2013 class. To me, that doesn't mean he is committed for just 2013, but for at least the next four years when the 2013 class will be in school.

    I agree, assuming PSU gives him what he needs to be competitive, IMO BOB will be here for the next 4-5 years at a minimum. Perhaps longer if he thinks PSU has a chance to compete for a national title post sanctions.

    Well based on the fact that less than 12 hours after BOB announced he was staying PSU began advertising for an assistant strength coach and a marketing director I'm assuming that those were 2 things BOB wanted. Also, money for assistants and recruiting resources are extremely important and I'm sure these things were addressed in BOB's new contract. Finally, an AD and President that BOB feel support PSU football and are willing to stand up to the NCAA unlike PSU's current administration. I'm not advocating BOB should be running the university but it seems like there was an athletic dept. wide revolt against Joyner and BOB knew that Joyner had to go in order to be successful.
